Supervises: Medical Assistant
The Nurse Team Leader is responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care and patient care management. She provides nursing care according to the six ANA Standards of Practice for the Registered Nurse: Assessment, Diagnosis, Outcome Identification, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation. The Nurse Team Leader identifies the learning needs of the Medicaid population of patients and designs, coordinates and implements individual and group educational programs to meet those needs in a way that supports the mission, vision and values of Holy Family Prenatal Care.

Position Responsibilities
- Develop methods for ongoing education and evaluation of patient education programs specific to prenatal care, in collaboration with the Medical Office Manager.
- Develop educational programs within the mission and philosophy of Elizabeth’s New Life Center and Holy Family Prenatal Care.
- Develop, implement, and revise individualized goal-directed nursing care for a specific patient population through the use of the nursing process.
- Review and update all educational materials used at Holy Family Prenatal Care.
- Demonstrate self-direction by participating in appropriate educational conferences and programs to develop and update professional knowledge.
- Demonstrate positive and effective communication skills to promote positive interactions between patients, staff, medical providers, and community agencies.
- Perform selected nursing and administrative duties, and assist providers as part of the clinical care team
- Conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient charts prior to appointment with recent test results and correspondence and determines needed services
- Confer with physician regarding any incomplete patient tests/consults or other incomplete orders prior to patient visit
- Prepare patients for examination and treatment by escorting them from the waiting area to the exam room, taking histories and vital signs
- Prepare, clean and maintain exam and treatment rooms
- Gives injections; assist with Non-stress testing, OB/GYN exams and office procedures as needed; and provide other patient care services as directed by the providers
- Maintain sample medication records, administer medication upon provider order and process medication requests from patients
- Prepare and maintain clinical supplies and equipment
- Answer incoming phone calls, triages and respond to patient communications
- Assist with scheduling tests and treatments, and processing referrals to other providers
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures
- Participate in professional development activities and maintains professional license and affiliations
- Delegate clinical duties to other healthcare personnel (MA, RN) as indicated under their scope of practice
- Supervise other healthcare personnel (MA, RN) as indicated
- Maintain strict confidentiality
- Treat staff, providers, and patients with dignity and respect
- Perform other related work as assigned by management
- Participate in administrative staff meetings, and attend other trainings/ meetings as required.
- Understand that attendance and punctuality, ready to work scheduled hours, are essential job functions
Position Requirements/Qualifications:
Education: RN or Associate or Bachelor’s degree
Licensure: Valid Ohio Registered Nurse License/Unrestricted
Experience: Experience in Obstetrical office or Labor and Delivery Nursing, Skilled in use of Electronic Medical Records preferred. (EPIC). Previous experience in Patient Education preferred.
Language & Other Skills: Presentation/ Facilitation and Educator Skills. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Demonstrates knowledge of HIPAA, ACOG, OSHA and Medicaid standards; ability to listen, interact and communicate verbally and in writing; experience teaching the adult learner; proficiency in the operation of a computer, a keyboard, and associated software with little or no assistance; Must have valid driver’s license and private automobile insurance and be insurable under ENLC policy.
Work Environment
The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment. The noise level in the work environment is low – moderate. The position requires the ability to sometimes work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, providers, patients, and other members of the public on a regular basis. The position may cause exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
Physical Abilities
- Stand and/or walk for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, sit, stoop and stretch
- Have full range of body motion
- Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and medical equipment (e.g. NST machine, glucometer, scale)
- Have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds
