JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Jr. Accountant (Payroll)
Objective
Accurately issue pay to employees, utilizing an in-house system, by calculating pay and
Deductions in accordance with established practices, guidelines and deadlines under the supervision of the supervisor of payroll/assignee.
Education/Experience:
- 2 yrs. Accounting/Bookkeeping/Payroll experience
- HS diploma/GED, Accounting education preferred
Skills
- Strong numerical skills, attention to detail and record keeping
- Communication: customer service, written and oral skills. Ability to effectively
present information and respond to questions from the Supervisor, Comptroller
and School Business Administrator.
- Team worker with ability to prioritize to meet deadlines/due dates, etc.
- Payroll tax (federal/state) knowledge a plus, understand internal controls
- Ability to handle confidential payroll and human resources matters
- Microsoft office proficiency – excel is essential
Responsibilities
- Review and process Board Approved payroll transactions – collect and
Compile information to record: new hires, terminations (including: resignations, retirements), leaves, salary changes, transfers, promotions, expense reclassification, special resolution payments and prepare related paperwork for input to generate accurate and timely pay as assigned.
- Attention to payroll voluntary and involuntary deductions such as pension, loans,
insurance, union dues, summer savings, tax shelters, flex spending, etc.
- Recalculate payroll due to change in terms of contracts 11 month from 12 month
and prepare collection letter if necessary and execute same
- Verify timekeeping records & communicate with payroll processors and
employee
- Execute settlement agreements and make accurate and timely payment in
accordance with legal document. Which may include retroactive pay, mandatory
deductions, etc. Communication with Human Resources is essential to verify
salaries and their updating rates in the system in compliance with the agreement.
- Handle employee questions/concerns regarding payroll, investigate, provide
accurate information. Address any required corrections and redirect if necessary
to Human Resources
- Assist with day to day operations including filing, report generation, scanning,
distribute checks, etc.
- Cross train in all areas in the payroll function.
- Comply with policies and procedures for processing payroll documents.
Terms of Employment:
Twelve (12) months; non-tenurable.
Evaluated by the Comptroller at least once per academic year.
Compensation and benefits as established by the collective negotiations agreement.
