Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a salaried, exempt OT staff position to provide evaluation, individual treatment to assigned residents.  Complete all necessary documentation to (evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, adaptive equipment justification letters, etc.) attend and report at all care plan meetings.  Provide clinical supervision to OT students.  Consult with other disciplines and family as necessary.

  • Provide evaluation and treatment to residents with a variety of different diagnoses.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing evaluation of residents, upon request of physician.
  • Establish, formulate and administer treatment plans in accordance with the philosophies of occupational therapy and the Center.
  • Provide all necessary documentation i.e. evaluations, progress notes, annual reviews and discharge summaries for residents on therapy caseloads.
  • Responsible for providing monthly OT statistics in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinate OT treatment programs with other interdisciplinary staff to provide continuity and consistency of care.
  • Evaluate and train residents in activities of daily living when appropriate.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with family and other interdisciplinary staff as appropriate to resident care.
  • Participation in the in-service education to enhance clinical and professional competence.
  • Assist in the in-service education of the interdisciplinary staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Administer treatment to a resident caseload and provide documentation in accordance with approved utilization review criteria and state regulations affecting occupational therapy.
  • Design, fabricate and monitor adaptive equipment for the resident(s) in collaboration with other team members. Participate in Adaptive Equipment Clinic and Wheelchair clinic as needed.  Refer to Adaptive Equipment procedures for details and clarifications.
  • Maintain daily attendance records, progress notes, initial evaluation and treatment programs, resident schedules, and complete and provide monthly statistics.
  • Attend all interdisciplinary meetings in accordance with the policies at the Center.
  • Provide update progress on resident’s care plan and report to team at Plan of Care and Physiatry meetings.
  • Provide therapy sessions in the hydrotherapy pool program on a rotational basis to residents, once CPR certified.
  • To establish a relationship and communication with outside school therapists treating our children and disseminate this information to all specific care meetings i.e. Plan of Care, Orthopedic Clinic, Physiatry Clinic, Wheelchair Clinic, and Adapted Equipment Clinic.
  • Carry out standards for customer service; quality improvement; professional development; environmental, safety and infection control practices; confidentiality, corporate compliance and all other Center policies and procedures; attend all mandatory in-services to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices in working with residents and their families.
  • To serve as a clinical instructor when OT student(s) affiliate at this facility.
  • Participate in the New Hire Orientation Program providing educational programs on a variety of topic including but not limited to: wheelchair safety, seating and positioning, transfers on an as needed basis.
  • To Provide home visit evaluation/assessment necessary for discharge or for any other relevant situation.
  • Perform other duties as necessary and as directed by your supervisor, department director, and/or administrator.

Qualifications

Education and License/Certification Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in O.T.
  • NYS licensure and registration certificate
  • CPR Preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year’s pediatric OT experience Preferred
  • Completion of a pediatric clinical affiliation

Employee Requirements:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
  • Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
  • Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.

Working Conditions:

  • Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area.
  • Will be subject to frequent interruptions.
  • May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.

Salary Range:

$85,000.00/Yr. To $95,000.00/Yr.
