The Elizabethtown College Department of English (School of Arts and Humanities) seeks an Adjunct Instructor to teach undergraduate courses in Old English, Medieval, and Renaissance British Literature.
Job Duties
In Fall 2025, the successful candidate will teach one survey class on all of these periods: EN200, “British Literature and Culture I: 500–1660,” a required course for the Literature Major, and also a key offering in the College’s Western Cultural Heritage Core (WCH).
During the same semester, the candidate will also teach another WCH course in an area that encompasses their own literary specialisation(s).
If the candidate demonstrates excellence in teaching, and a willingness to engage in the wider life of the Department, they may be invited to teach courses in future semesters.
Required Qualifications
- possess an earned doctorate, from an accredited university, in one or more of the literary periods delineated in the job description (ABD candidates will be considered);
- demonstrate a record of quality teaching at all levels of undergraduate instruction (introductory, intermediate, and advanced);
- have excellent communication skills;
- be flexible; and
- be responsive to emerging trends in instructional approaches in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications
- the ability to teach in person (although candidates who teach online will be considered)
- the ability to provide courses that expose our students to diverse cultures and world-views (e.g., theatre and drama, socio-economic uprisings, (anti-)colonialism, literary translation, sex and gender); and
- evidence of prior experience in teaching advanced composition.
