What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Center Assistant - Part Time IMRF position at Elk Grove Park District?
Salary Range: $17.00 - $18.00 IMRF Eligible
Hours: M- F 9am - 2pm
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Adult Center Supervisor, the Adult Center Assistant is responsible for coordination and implementation of the day to day activities and events of the Sheila Ray Adult Center and the park district’s adult programming. Typical hours for the position are Monday-Friday 9am-2pm. Hours may vary based on programming needs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plan, implement, coordinate and direct center activities, and create new center activities based on the needs for new interest groups.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of special events, including but not limited to: Rummage Sales, Monthly Luncheons, Holiday Bazaar, Summer Bazaar, Dancing with the Band, Murder Mystery, Canine Events, and more.
- Assist in creating and proofing the “Buzz” newsletter and the park district brochure
- Keeps consistent communication with the Adult Center Supervisor regarding the center and its participants, as well as any questions or concerns that may arise.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement Adult Trips from start to finish. At times this position may need to be a chaperone during trips.
- Willing to drive a 14 passenger bus for local trips
- Shop for supplies needed for programs and stay within the annual budget.
- Lead Sheila Ray Adult Center activities, such as bingo, as needed.
- Oversee the tracking of volunteer hours and eligibility for the RSVP program.
- Oversee the Adult Center’s gift shop volunteers.
- Performs the job safely and in compliance with district policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
- Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist the Adult Center Supervisor with tasks and work cooperatively with them to fulfill daily activities.
- Assist in overseeing proper techniques and sanitation are used in preparing food for programs and events.
- Work closely with facility management in order to handle floor plans for room setup/take down for programs and events.
- Handle special projects upon request.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Trained in First Aid, CPR and AED.
- Obtain food handler certification within 90 days.
- Computer literacy and proficiency.
- Requires flexibility, good communication skills, and patience.
- Ability to advise and attend to the special needs and circumstances of the senior population
- Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions.
- Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Prefer work experience in recreational programming.
