Pay Rate: Starting at $15.00 per hour
(Also includes some Park District Facility/Program Usage Benefits)
Hours: Monday - Friday 8:45am - 3:15pm
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Camp Director and Aquatics Program Supervisor, the Aqua Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising children along with planning, organizing, and implementing day to day activities. This position is hired as a seasonal employee, which spans from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Work is performed at a self controlled pace but may vary depending on the demands of the job required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Supervise children ranging from 5-12 years old.
- Implement weekly lesson plans that include theme days, special crafts, and other activities.
- Maintain a commitment to the development of each child’s self esteem by providing a safe, fun, and nurturing environment through age appropriate activities, crafts, and games.
- Be present and on time to camp every day.
- Swim and interact with the children when in the pool.
- Displays the ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
- Effectively communicate information regarding Aqua Summer Camp policies to participants
- Attend staff meetings and other required trainings/events that are scheduled after normal working hours.
- Performs the job safely and in compliance with district policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
- Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be able to work the entire duration of the summer (End of May-Second week of August.)
- If required to drive, you must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and be comfortable driving a 14 passenger bus.
- Ability to swim.
- Know developmentally appropriate activities for the age of the children.
- Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees.
- Effective leadership skills.
- Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions.
- Flexibility, excellent communication skills and patience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
CPR/First Aid, AED Certified
