What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian - Full Time Non-Exempt position at Elk Grove Park District?
Hiring Range: $19.25 - $22.29
Hours: Sunday - Thursday 4 AM - 12:30 PM
JOB SUMMARY
Under general direction, performs a variety of tasks required to maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of all Elk Grove Park District Facilities including outside bathrooms at various parks. Hours vary according to shift and can change as workload requires. May be required to work some holidays.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Works to eliminate unsanitary conditions and to maintain a clean, neat appearance throughout the Pavilion.
- Perform general custodial duties including men’s locker room sanitation; vacuuming; cleaning and sanitizing of sinks, toilets, showers, washroom and shower floors; dusting; removal of trash; cleaning mirrors and counters; pool deck maintenance and general cleaning as assigned.
- Performs the job safely and in compliance with district policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
- Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Prepare rooms for classes and programs by setting up tables, chairs, volleyball nets, etc. as assigned.
- Safely operate mechanized equipment for shampooing, vacuuming, stripping, waxing and buffing floors.
- Restock dispensers that supply soap, paper towels, etc.
- Report safety concerns to the Pavilion Maintenance Supervisor.
- Performs minor repairs as needed.
- Pick up litter in the front of the building as assigned.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
- Travel to other facilities and parks to perform duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Understanding of general cleaning and sanitation duties and techniques.
- Ability to perform physical tasks as required to clean and sanitize the Pavilion.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Hours and days may change as workload requires.
- Must understand and be able to communicate in English.
- Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions.
- Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate and maintain a wide variety of hand tools, vehicles and equipment
- Possess a valid Illinois drivers license.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The above knowledge and skills may be demonstrated by a minimum of one year custodial work experience. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school.
