The Food and Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students’ health, well-being and their ability to learn. The Food and Nutrition Services department supports learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness.
Food and Nutrition Services believes that healthier students are better learners, so they are committed to providing students foods that promote a healthy body and mind. The FNS department has always had a strong focus on teaching students the importance of eating a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. However, over the past few years, they have committed to provide a stronger Farm to School presence through nutrition education and the foods they serve. The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) is the fifth-largest school district in California located in southern Sacramento County. EGUSD covers 320 square miles and includes 68 schools: 43 elementary schools, nine middle schools, nine high schools, five alternative education schools, an adult school, one charter school and a virtual academy.
