Associate Geologist

Elk Range Royalties is an active buyer of mineral and royalty interests in the US. We have partnered with NGP Energy, an investment firm with an over 30-year history of investing in the oil and gas business. This provides us with strong financial backing in the form of patient capital with a long-term horizon. The company is currently investing capital out of its third equity commitment from NGP under Elk Range Royalties III.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Assist Senior Geologist in providing geologic analysis on target units / mineral deal evaluations
  • Data mining websites / data libraries for both private and proprietary well data
  • Well log interpretations and geologic mapping
  • Decipher depth severances
  • Generate geologic presentation slides for C-suite management / investor review calls
  • Manage Subsurface Studio projects for multiple Lower 48 basins
  • Identify new formations being drilled in a basin
  • Import new production data
  • Assist in generating geologic AOIs
  • Support reservoir engineers with refining timing, well spacing and type curve assumptions
  • Assist reserves / asset management department to catalog new development on Elk Range portfolio footprints

Knowledge / Skills / Competencies

  • Must be able to adjust and keep up with fast-paced work environment and company priority / goal shifts
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret geological data
  • Effective communication skills to present geologic findings across company departments, C-suite and investment entities
  • Collaborative mindset to generate new ideas with multidisciplinary teams to accomplish company goals and enhance efficiency
  • Education & Experience

  • Degree : Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related field required
  • Experience : 0 – 3 years of Oil & Gas related work experience
  • If 0, internship experience is required
  • Operator geology experience in the Lower 48 is a plus
  • Proficiency with geology software and public data (TGS, Subsurface Studio, Drillinginfo)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
  • QGIS experience is a plus
  • Python, SQL, and Spotfire skills are a plus
