Additional Information:
The Elkhart Police Department is accepting applications for the position of full-time Police Officer. LATERALS: You will be compensated for your continued years of service with additional vacation days and monthly longevity pay. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and under 40 years old (per pension requirements) at the time of being sworn-in, possess high school diploma/GED, valid driver’s license, and US Citizenship. ***Officers will advance to the next class patrolman after completing one full year. An officer hired in 2024, will achieve 2nd Class Patrolman in 2025.***
- 3rd Class Patrolman $67,438-New officers/non certified
- 2nd Class Patrolman $71,438-Lateral, depending on years of service
- 1st Class Patrolman $78,438-Lateral, depending on years of service
Pay scale will increase over the next 3 years.
- $2,000.00 Annual Clothing Allowance

LATERAL ENTRY PROGRAM:
Academy Cert. & up to 2 yrs of experience: 3 personal days and $5,000 sign on bonus
3 years of experience: 5 personal days and $10,000 sign on bonus
4 or more years of experience: 10 personal days and $15,000 sign on bonus
The hiring process with be expedited for laterals and laterals that are currently enrolled in Indiana PERF.
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
· Age: 21-40 years of age upon hire
· U.S. Citizen
· Valid driver’s license
· Have a high school diploma or GED, or higher
· Complete Indiana Law Enforcement Academy within one year of hire
Lateral entry officers must possess a valid sworn law enforcement certification
