BASIC FUNCTION

Provide instructional support to teachers in the implementation of “best practice” strategies in all academic areas

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Meets regularly with administrators and teachers to identify specific curriculum, instruction and assessment training needs of the schools.

Assists in the formal coaching of effective teaching strategies with identified teachers, including newly hired teachers (new to the district or four years or less experience).

Assists teachers, at their request or by assignment, in organizing classrooms for effective literacy and math instruction.

Assists teachers, at their request or by assignment, with incorporating technology into daily instruction.

Assists teachers, at their request of by assignment, with strategies to engage students in their own learning.

Assists teachers, at their request or by assignment, with classroom management strategies to improve instruction.

Assists teachers, at their request or by assignment, with differentiation strategies to meet students’ needs.

Serves as a coach to individuals and teams of teachers to determine intervention needs in literacy and math.

Completes coaching cycles with identified teachers.

Assists with the implementation of “best practice” strategies in all academic areas.

Models instruction that connects curriculum and assessment practices in classrooms.

Assists with facilitation of the school’s Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s) for the purpose of implementing/adjusting/ refining the curriculum, analyzing assessment data, and improving instruction.

Creates job-embedded professional learning opportunities within the school(s) focused on a problem of practice or an area of concentration (e.g. Learning Labs, Learning Walks, Thinking strategies Institute).

Maintains open-communication with assigned teachers, principals and district leadership.

Assists in the preparation and implementation of universal screening in reading and math as well as benchmarking and probing students as part of progress monitoring (RTI).

Assists teachers with analysis of reading, writing, and math assessment results.

Assists teachers with analysis of student work and performance data.

Assists teachers with the creation of modified assignments/tests/etc following a students’ IEP, 504, or PSP.

Assists Teachers with the implementation and design of accommodations following students’ IEP, 504, or PSP.

Assists in the construction and evaluation of classroom assessment instruments (formative and summative).

Serves as a consultant in the selection of resources (instructional texts and/or supplies, technology, and professional books related to all academic areas).

Assists in the planning of professional development options and other in-service programs to help raise the level of instructional performance in all content areas.

Attends workshops, conferences, and meetings necessary to maintain and update professional knowledge and to provide professional development for school staff based on information obtained through these trainings (e.g. District coaching opportunities, Cognitive Coaching, Adaptive Schools, Thinking Strategies).

Recommends ways in which the curriculum can be adjusted to meet the special learning needs of exceptional children in literacy and math.

Participates in proposed and ongoing curriculum development projects (e.g. School and district Focus Teams).

Performs classroom visitations and demonstrations.

Assists teachers in analysis of student progress, student work, and teaching methods in reading, writing, and math.

Confers with teachers, principals and district leadership staff on curriculum, instruction, and assessment problems.

Other job responsibilities same as teacher, as defined in Franklin County Public Schools Manual.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of successful teaching experience.
  • Formal experience in mentoring teachers in effective instructional and assessment strategies.
  • Experience with providing accommodations to students recommended.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.

 

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for Professional Personnel.
