Job Description
SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE
The building inspector will perform all work associated with the inspection of buildings for compliance with all International, Uniform, and National Building Codes adopted by the Board of County Commissioners. Hereafter referred to as "building codes".
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following :
- Perform building inspections for compliance with all building codes.
- Review permit applications for all types of building construction.
- Efficiently write correction notices for deficiencies in construction jobs as needed.
- Determine cost evaluations for building permits.
- Analyze submitted plans for the type of building construction and occupancy group.
- Determine building setbacks from property lines by criteria established by County Zoning Codes.
- Review and approve building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing documents for permits.
- Review plans and communicates with licensed design professionals, contractors, and owner-builders for compliance with adopted building codes.
- Under the supervision of the Building Official, write letters to licensed design professionals, contractors, and owner-builders concerning questions regarding building codes.
- Under the supervision of the Building Official, learn to research alternate methods of construction approved by ICC, IAPMO, and other approved agencies for alternative construction methods.
- Complies with all Elko County policies and department procedures.
- Accurately, dependably, and promptly finishes assignments.
- Keeps supervisor informed of work status and pertinent issues.
- Communicates tactfully and skillfully with co-workers, customers, and the general public.
- Perform professionally and efficiently under pressure.
- Maintains business confidence.
- Listens carefully and effectively and responds appropriately.
- Represent the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
- May be required to be on-call and work occasional weekends and / or holidays.
