Director of Secondary Curriculum & Instruction

Division : Administrative Unit

Classification : Licensed Administrator

Terms of Employment : 219 Days

FLSA STATUS : EXEMPT

POSITION SUMMARY : To provide leadership in the development, implementation, evaluation and coordination of the District's 7-12 curriculum and instructional services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assists the Superintendent in the administration of the District's 7-12 instructional services.
  • Coordinates District instructional, testing and assessment, curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs.
  • Assists in coordinating the development, implementation and updating of curriculum.
  • Serves as the coordinator and consultant to the secondary staff in developing and implementing curricular and co-curricular programs.
  • Coordinates and supervises the District's adult education program.
  • Attends meetings of the Board of Trustees when necessary and prepares such reports of the Board of Trustees as may be required by the Superintendent.
  • Participates in appropriate local, state, and national professional meetings.
  • Coordinates and supervises the District's alternative education programs.
  • Oversees the Battle Born Youth Challenge Academy (BBYCA).
  • Coordinates and supervises the School Resource Officer (SRO) program.
  • Coordinates and supervises the District Safety Committee.
  • Coordinates and supervises the Northern Nevada Virtual Academy (NNVA).
  • Coordinates and supervises the District Food Services program.
  • Performs such other duties and tasks assigned.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS :

  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with parents, school and administrative personnel, and representatives of community organizations and agencies.
  • Ability to utilize and promote participatory management techniques.
  • Possess physical and mental stamina required by the responsibilities of the position.
  • Possess personal characteristics, including but not limited to, poise, perspective, integrity, and flexibility necessary for success as an administrator in the Elko County School District.
  • Evidence of educational leadership, including ability to promote and provide opportunities for recognition, development, and leadership among staff, and colleagues.
  • Understanding and sensitivity to the needs of the various cultural and ethnic groups in the school community and to the needs of students and staff with handicapping conditions.
  • POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

    Education and Training :

  • An earned master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Licenses and Certifications :

  • Must possess or be able to acquire a Nevada school administrative endorsement.
  • A valid driver's license that allows the applicant / employee to legally operate a motor vehicle in Nevada.
  • Minimum Position Qualifications :

  • Have previously demonstrated at least three (3) years of successful licensed teaching experience and at least five (5) years as a contracted school-site administrator (Principal or Vice Principal) in an accredited K-12 public or private school, as of July 1, 2025.
  • Preferred Experience :

  • At least three (3) years of site administrator (Principal) experience in a public or private school, as of July 1, 2025.
