SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE
The Part Time Receptionist for the Roads Department is responsible for administrative duties for the Roads Department on an as-needed basis. 
 
 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Answer the telephone, and relay messages to the appropriate people.
  • Answer questions and courteously listen to complaints from the public.
  • Prepare accounts payable claims for Road Department and RTC fund to submit to Comptroller’s office for payment ensuring the correct amount to vendors by checking the invoices for accuracy and mistakes as well as determining what account code to charge invoice.
  • Record daily information in the maintenance management program.
  • Assist with gasoline/diesel pump fuel inventory; order fuel, keep running inventory of pump readings, and advise any shortages to the Road Supervisor.
  • Keep time cards and invoices posted in the maintenance management program as well as a daily worksheet.
  • Maintain office equipment and supplies including printer and assist with other employee’s computer needs.
  • Comply with Elko County Policies and department procedures.
  • Accurately completes work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Advise supervisor of project/work status.
  • Communicates tactfully, both orally and in writing, with co-workers and the general public.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must maintain a valid Nevada driver’s license.
Knowledge
  • Personnel policies and procedures for Elko County.
  • Basic knowledge of personal computers.
  • Have knowledge of the geographic location of County roads.
 Skills 
  • Demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills, especially in dealing with the public.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Managing time effectively.
  • Applying basic accounting concepts. Making and verifying arithmetical computations with accuracy and speed.
 Abilities
  • Effectively communicate with the public, answering questions in clear and concise terms, and handling complaints courteously and with diplomacy.
  • Listens carefully and responds appropriately.
  • Type with accuracy and speed.
An employee in this position must meet the following physical requirements upon application:
  • Work is performed in an office setting. 
  • Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk.
  • Ability to sit or stand at a computer for several hours at a time.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 15 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Frequent interruptions to planned work activities should be expected.
  • The environment is generally clean with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, noise, or odors, and outdoors in inclement weather to determine fuel usage.
  • Tools and equipment used include a personal computer, printer, scanner, telephone, calculator, copy machine, mobile radio unit, and other associated office equipment.
