We are currently looking to hire a Gas Turbine Material and Process Engineer for our client, this can be either a hybrid or remote role for the right candidate. Our client is a global power solutions provider with operational experience on every continent who are currently going through a significant period of commercial and technological growth. The company offers vertically integrated power services, including engineering, construction, operations, repair, maintenance, and research. This role will be responsible for leading the selection of advanced materials for gas turbine components, considering factors like material behaviors, strength, heat resistance, corrosion, fatigue properties, life and cost.
The Gas Turbine Material and Process Engineer will drive the selection, analysis, and optimization of materials and manufacturing processes for gas turbine components to ensure performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. You will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, repair, and quality teams to drive improvements in material selection, process engineering, and overall product performance.
Below is a list of the key responsibilities for the role, whilst not exhaustive, that you’ll need to be able to perform.
- Conduct materials testing and analysis to determine suitability for specific turbine applications.
- Develop and implement material specification documents for components in accordance with industry standards.
- Identify and implement manufacturing and repair processes for gas turbine components, ensuring that they meet the design intent and performance criteria.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and repair teams to improve existing processes and introduce new technologies for material, forging, coating, welding, casting, and machining.
- Develop and optimize thermal and mechanical processing techniques (e.g., heat treatment, coating deposition) to enhance material properties and performance.
- Investigate material-related failures and process inconsistencies, conducting root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
- Provide technical recommendations for process improvements based on failure analysis, material trends, and operational feedback.
- Support new product development efforts by advising on material and process choices that best align with performance and cost goals.
- Prepare technical reports, material specifications, process flow diagrams, and other documentation to communicate findings and recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees (Master’s or Ph.D.) are preferred. A minimum 3-5 years of experience in material selection, process engineering, or related roles within the aerospace, power generation, or gas turbine industries is required, experience with high-temperature materials, coatings, or superalloys commonly used in gas turbines is highly desirable.
