The position is a 20 hour per week position. Competitive salary. A full-time office is provided, which the psychiatrist is welcome to use for private practice. Other benefits provided include a 70% Individual/60% Family contribution to Blue Cross Blue Shield Medical Insurance for the HMO Plan; for our BCBS PPO Plan,  the employer contribution level is 60% Individual/50% Family.  50% contribution towards Blue Cross Blue Shield Dental Insurance, and 50% contribution towards professional liability insurance, and company sponsored life insurance and short/long term disability plans.  We also offer a 401k plan with a company-match component, and a generous Paid Time Off policy.  The psychiatrist will be a member of a multidisciplinary team consisting of 10-12 psychosocial clinicians and nurses. The psychiatrist, in conjunction with the Clinical Director, has overall clinical responsibility for the delivery of clinical services. The psychiatrist provides psychiatric/medical assessments and treatment for up to 12 patients; clinical supervision, education, and training of the treatment team; and development, maintenance, and supervision of treatment plans and administrative policies and procedures. 

The psychiatrist participates in twice monthly one-hour meetings with other doctors in the program for peer supervision and support. The psychiatrist attends weekly half-hour meetings with the nurses to coordinate care. The psychiatrist may also meet with a senior psychiatrist individually on a regular basis for orientation and support.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and present assessments and formulations to the treatment team. 
  • Supervise the treatment team in their comprehensive assessments of clients’ psychiatric and psychosocial history.
  • Collaborate with the nurses in assessing and monitoring medical issues as well as referring to and collaborating with outside medical providers.  
  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medication regularly, provide psycho-education and support to clients and families with regard to medications. 
  • Provide psycho-education, support, and counseling to clients’ families as part of their comprehensive treatment plan when needed. 
  • Provide crisis assessment, management, and supervision to on-call staff, in person, when possible, and by phone after business hours. Call schedule is flexible and will be crafted as needed.
  • Assist the team leader with administrative issues and supervision of individual team members, providing regular feedback regarding performance.
  • Train staff in the knowledge and skills required for the treatment of severe and persistent mental illness.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge Required:

  • The psychiatrist is board-certified or board-eligible in psychiatry and licensed to practice medicine in the state of Massachusetts. The psychiatrist has interest in working with a multidisciplinary team and healthcare delivery in the community to persons with severe and persistent mental illness. The psychiatrist has strong clinical skills and experience. Clinical supervisory experience is desirable.
