Purpose
The role of a Multilingual Teacher is to support students in language development and academic achievement by providing targeted services that address social, emotional, and environmental factors impacting learning. Working collaboratively with students, staff, families, and the professional community, the teacher promotes positive growth through the application of specialized skills and strategies.
Responsibilities
- Provides instruction and activities for ML students in the areas of literacy
- Planning, preparing, delivering, and evaluating ML lessons for large and small groups and individuals
- Working together with counselors, teachers, specialists, students, and parents to ensure student growth in the ELD standards.
- Monitoring ML student progress in pull-out as well as push-in models
- Designing and producing teaching materials/curriculum and adapting existing materials/curriculum for the ML Program as well as other subject areas
- Training teachers to serve students using Language Acquisition Strategies from an assets-based approach
- Involving parents through parent nights and bilingual/migrant community outreach programs
- Engaging in continuing professional development on Language Acquisition
- Following the Ellensburg School District ML Plan and help adjust this plan where needed
- Assessing ML student progress through WIDA testing and District benchmark testing
- Monitoring progress of exited ML students
Educational/Vocational Preparation Occupational Certificates/Licenses
- Washington State Teaching Certificate with ELL K – 12 Endorsement
- Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check
- Completion of GLAD and/or SIOP Training preferred
Required/Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bilingual / bi-literate in Spanish and English preferred
- Teaching experience in an ML classroom setting preferred
- Secondary Teaching classroom experience preferred
