Essential Job Functions
- Contribute to a positive school climate by maintaining a high level of professionalism and interacting with students, staff and co-workers in a positive manner.
- Operate, maintain and clean equipment, machinery and appliances (i.e., dishwasher, oven, freezer, food warmer steam table), and report equipment malfunctions for the purpose of maintaining equipment in safe working order.
- Prepare and cook foods according to standardized recipes.
- Stock and maintain salad bars in accordance with department procedure.
- Serve food items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.
- Inspect food items and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity, quality and specifications or orders and/or complying with mandated health requirements.
- Clean and organize utensils, dinnerware, equipment, storage and food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions.
- Maintain an inventory of dry storage, refrigerated and frozen food, condiments, etc., for the purposes of ensuring availability of items as specified on the menu, and ordering supplies as needed.
- Process delivery of supplies and equipment as needed.
- Understand what constitutes a "reimbursable" meal as required by the Federal guidelines for participation in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and production reports in regard to the preparation and serving of meals and "reimbursable meals".
- Practice regulations instituted by the National School Lunch Programs.
- Maintain strict confidentiality concerning student/family National Lunch Program Benefit status.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of this position.
- Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check
- Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Food Handler's Permit
- As the job functions will require repetitive lifting and stretching motions, you must be able to pass a doctor's physical examination showing that you have the ability to:
- Lift and carry 10 to 50 lbs. frequently
- Assist with lifting over 75 lbs. occasionally
- Load and unload products from vehicles of various heights from 3 to 5 feet
- Use push and pull methods to move products around work area
- Store products requiring arm extension, straight and overhead reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting, twisting, and turning
- Use repetitive motions involved with food preparation and cleaning processes, including using hands and wrist repeatedly for grasping, cutting, and lifting food and equipment, and taking fully loaded trays of food in and out of commercial size ovens
- Work from an awkward position to accomplish cleaning of equipment
- Be on feet the majority of the work shift.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters in an ethical manner.
- Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships and interact positively with all school district staff, students and parents.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and independently, take initiative, recognize and adjust priorities as needed, and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to produce, organize and maintain accurate records.
- Demonstrated ability to work with large sums of money in an efficient and accurate manner.
- Demonstrated high level of computer proficiency and application of technology.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to fill any position in Food Services when necessary.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
