Description
The Fitness Instructor will be responsible for delivering engaging, safe, and effective fitness programs tailored to the diverse needs of rural community members. This role focuses on promoting physical activity and overall wellness, addressing health disparities, and fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. The instructor will work as a part of the Rural Health Network team to implement programs that improve community health outcomes, particularly among underserved populations. This position requires a strong understanding of exercise science, excellent communication skills, and a passion for empowering individuals to achieve their fitness goals in a rural setting.
- Lead engaging and motivating fitness classes
- Ensure a safe and supportive exercise environment, monitoring participants for proper form and technique
- Foster a sense of community and encourage participant interaction and support
- Conduct outreach activities to promote fitness programs and recruit participants from underserved rural communities
- Manage equipment and supplies, ensuring proper maintenance and safety
- Adhere to all safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Maintain accurate records of participant registration forms and attendance
- Prepare and submit regular reports on program activities and outcomes
- Attends project-related meetings and workshops as directed by Executive Director or Program Coordinator

Salary: $21.00 per hour

Requirements
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2 years teaching fitness classes
Preferred:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or another related field preferred
- Relevant certifications from recognized organizations (e.g., ACE, NASM, ACSM)
CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS
Required:
- Clear and concise verbal communication
- Experience facilitating a group fitness class
- Knowledge of different fitness disciplines (e.g., strength training, cardio, flexibility)
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Valid driving license
Preferred:
- Certification of different fitness disciplines (e.g. yoga, tai chi, Zumba)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Experience working with underserved and rural populations
- Customer service, communication, problem-solving, multi-tasking
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Proficient in computer software programs such as Microsoft Office
