Required Skills, Knowledge and Competencies
Our Senior Project Manager position will offer you an exciting opportunity to help our Clients provide safe and reliable electric power. You should be a self-motivated professional with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in voltages up to 765kV.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate a project’s detailed design including one-line diagrams, selection of equipment, writing of equipment specifications, grounding system design conduit and cable sizing/routing, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, physical layouts, construction cost estimates and project scheduling.
- Manage project costs, schedule, and priorities for engineering design & equipment specification functions for electrical projects from 480V to 500 kV.
- Review, inspect, and approve electrical equipment to be used in electrical systems.
- Coordinate the physical design, including bus design, equipment ratings, and safety/maintenance clearances.
- Perform electrical equipment inspection and engineering assessment.
- Coordinate designs with other engineers, customers, and vendors.
- Interpret and apply common engineering principles and standards.
- Interface and collaborate with Civil/Structural engineers and provide technical support as required.
- Display strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Preparing equipment specifications, analyzing bids, and making recommendations for purchase.
- Monitoring for compliance with all applicable laws (OHSA, NFPA-70E, NEC, IEEE).
- Prepare technical proposals, including the design and writing the scope of work, management plans, work sequence, safety, and quality control and commissioning
- Preparing engineering and construction costs, man-hour estimates, and schedules.
- Meeting and corresponding with clients, the sales team, and vendors.
- Prepare regular project updates to maintain required customer care.
- Support construction of substations and equipment commissioning.
- Lead coordination of meetings with design team members and clients.
- Read and comprehend one line, three lines, Schematics, wiring diagrams, demolition, construction, and lift and land.
- Able to specify electrical components according to NEC, and IEEE standards.
- Schedule all subcontract and materials purchases to permit on-time installation.
- Conduct site survey for field measuring and construction observation
- Review and edit project submittals.
- Review and edit engineering reports prior to customer issue.
- Prepare project cost estimates.
- Provide direction and supervision to team members. Formally evaluate their performance after each project and provide feedback.
- Resolve performance issues promptly.
- Identify capability gaps and ensure sufficient training opportunities are available to engineers and field staff.
- Technical & commercial proposal writing.
- Communicate with customers on commercial and technical issues.
- Visit customer site to address customer needs and develop new business.
- Track proposal and order hit rate activity.
- Provide technical and application assistance to Sales Team.
- Provide updates of proposal activities.
- Develop unique solutions using all technical resources available to provide greater customer value.
- Occasionally work evenings and weekends to satisfy bid-due-dates.
- Create work scopes and costing of power system studies, engineered solutions, and EPC projects.
- Must be able to clearly and effectively communicate in English and be comfortable doing so directly to customers and coworkers.
- Able to write clearly and correctly in English and develop proposals.
- Perform other duties as requested to improve business development and execution of projects.
Basic Qualifications
- 10 years related experience in electrical estimating or electrical construction field.
- Master electrician, bachelor’s degree, or engineering degree. Work equivalency acceptable.
- Experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings.
- Must have attention to details, excellent organization, and prioritizing skills to meet quality standards in internal/external communication, schedules and budget.
- Sound working knowledge of applicable ANSI/IEEE, NFPA70E, and NEC standards for design and construction
- Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communications skills.
- Willing to travel as needed to project site (less than 50%)
- Ability to work in a team environment and to coordinate the work of various engineering disciplines and contractors to complete an integrated project.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications and applicable code requirements.
- Experience with contract documents: contract drawings, specifications, subcontracts, contract addendum, and change orders.
- Proficiency using various software applications (Project Mgmt Software, MS Office Suite).
- Strong business skills and ability to estimate and produce projects at a profit.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the basic qualifications, the following are highly desired:
- 7 years of progressive experience in EPC of electrical power systems.
- PMP certified.
- Expert understanding of PM systems and how to use them properly.
- Able to write and define company processes to improve overall performance.
- Ability to lead engineers, contractors, and suppliers to achieve high customer satisfaction at a profit.
- Demonstrated experience in physical construction of air-insulated electric substations from 35 kV and up.
- Experience in system studies and understanding of power quality
- Experience in both Electric Utility, Industrial, and consulting engineering environments
- Experience in EPC project; 480V to 345 kV experience
- Experience in construction or estimating of the physical design of air-insulated electric substations from 345 kV and up.
Relevant Background
Candidate must be an energetic, self-starter who can function independently in a team environment. The successful candidate must have the following:
· A valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
· The ability to pass a drug test.
· Currently authorized to work US.
Physical Requirements
The candidate will be subjected to industrial and power plant atmospheres, exposed to areas that have high voltages and electrical currents present in low-medium-high-extra high voltage substations, and intense noises. Candidate may be required to wear hearing protection, safety harness, and other personal protective equipment (PPE). Must be able to crawl, climb, and able to pass a fit-for-duty physical exam.
