Overview & Responsibilities
To fabricate conduit for electrical or instrumentation wiring, install switches, signals, wiring, etc., for electrical instruments on all product lines. Install performance and mechanical instrumentation for testing compressors and turbines. Assemble and test electrical power cables, system electrical feedthroughs, power cable support assemblies, and Vibration Monitoring System (VMS Bultheads).
Tools and Equipment
Test equipment and instruments necessary to check out work conducted, power hand tools and grinders, drill press, soldering equipment, miscellaneous small machines and hand tools, conduit benders, pipe threading machines, Hipot tester, Megger tester, Helium leak detector, Worksaver, etc., motor generator and stud welding gun, portable welder, overhead cranes, forklift truck and other material handling equipment.
Materials
Used : Relay and control equipment, switches, panel boards, insulation materials, wire and cable hardware, solder, conduit piping steel support plants, joint sealing compounds, electrical epoxy, electrical power cables, electrical power feedthroughs, VMS feedthroughs and bulkheads, etc.
Responsibilities
Receives instructions from supervision.
Receives wiring diagrams and work orders.
Analyze all types of drawing and wiring diagrams to determine material needs and assembly specifications along with methods.
Make any sketches required when drawings are not available.
Plans details of working procedure and determines tools and materials required.
Makes all mechanical tests required on electrical equipment installed on the unit.
Fabricates parts as required, using shop machines and hand tools.
Fabricates conduits with proper measuring and bending methods.
Installs conduits on unit per drawing, short forms, etc.
Installs electrical wiring as called for by drawings, bills of material, wiring diagrams, etc.
Operate overhead crane and jib cranes.
Reports identifying data and time spent on jobs to foreman.
Prepares daily log of work accomplished and any difficulty that has been encountered and corrections made.
Wipe and keeps machines, tools, and workplace clean.
Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, materials and equipment in proper place.
Reports defective material and equipment to supervision as soon as it is discovered.
Observes all safety rules and reports hazardous conditions.
Perform stud welding as required.
Operates forklift truck and other material handling equipment.
Operates portable welder as required.
Trouble shooting including checking resistance and voltages common with above connections to verify their integrity.
Wiring compressor and turbines for final shipment.
Utilize computer to look up drawings, do email and utilize various software used in testing and wiring compressors and turbines.
Assist Instrumentation Specialists.
Does shaft surface micorpeening for vibration analysis.
Performs hipot testing on electrical components such as power cables and feedthroughs. AC and DC hipot testing up to 30KV for 60 seconds
Performs megger testing on electrical components such as power cables and feedthroughs. DC voltage megger testing up to 10KV for 60 seconds.
Performs helium leak checks on electrical components such as VMS feedthroughs and ammonia pump flex conduits.
Helium leak checks with pressures up to 100 PSIG with 5 minutes of continuous monitoring.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be able and willing to work 1st(7am-3pm), 2nd(3pm-11pm) and 3rd (11pm-7am) shifts. Shifts are not guaranteed.
Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends and holidays.
