Position Overview:
Seeking an entry-level Fleet Helper to join our Fleet Department. This position will provide essential support to a department responsible for overseeing a diverse fleet of over 300 vehicles. Our fleet includes a wide range of vehicles, from passenger vans and trucks to large commercial vehicles such as DOT-regulated vehicles, cranes, commercial truck cabs, and specialty vehicles. The Fleet Helper will assist in various departmental functions, including maintaining the fleet warehouse, managing inventory, and supporting day-to-day operations. This is a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position, ideal for individuals looking to gain valuable experience in fleet management and operations.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, or containers, by hand or using trucks, or other equipment.
- Sort materials before loading and unloading.
- Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs.
- Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protected.
- Carry needed tools or supplies from storage or trucks and return them after use.
- Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of fleet vehicles, ensuring vehicles are presentable and in optimal condition for use. This includes washing, waxing, vacuuming, and detailing the vehicles as required.
- Run errands for the department, such as picking up or delivering materials, ensuring timely and efficient transportation.
- Conduct regular inventory checks and assist with inventory management, ensuring accurate stock levels and timely reporting of discrepancies.
- Utilize warehouse management software to track inventory, monitor shipments, and manage stock movement efficiently.
- Clean and maintain the interior shop area, and the exterior yard, ensuring a safe and organized environment.
Required Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong organizational skills and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills
- Excelled focus on accuracy and detail
- Proficient in basic functions of Microsoft Word and Excel
Preferred Skills:
- Proficient in operating heavy equipment
- Ability to operate a forklift
- Basic knowledge of warehouse operations
- Prior experience in warehouse or fleet environments
- Familiar with warehouse management systems and inventory tracking software
- Basic mechanical abilities for light maintenance tasks
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs (or more with assistance), including pushing or pulling carts, pallets, or equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods, including climbing ladders, stairs, and performing repetitive motions such as reaching, grasping, and handling inventory or materials.
- Physical stamina to stay active and maintain energy levels throughout the entire work shift, including bending, stooping, squatting.
- Ability to work at elevated heights.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
