Responsible for CPT & ICD-10 Orthopaedic surgical coding from operative reports and E&M coding from office notes. Subspecialties include Sports Medicine, Foot & Ankle, Total joint Replacement, and Physical Therapy. Responsible for surgery charge entry and back-up to automated office charge entry, coding edits, and ongoing education with physicians.
Position Title: Medical Coder
Reports to: Billing Manager

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate CPT & ICD-10 coding for orthopedic surgical, physical therapy, DME, home health, and clinical claims
- Correctly apply modifiers and use up-to-date coding techniques to ensure clean claims & limit corrections
- Read and process medical records (chart notes, diagnostic imaging, op notes) for insurance claims & auditing purposes
- Review insurance correspondence and CMS Guidelines to update coding systems in a timely manner
- Support other departments for benefit verifications and procedure authorizations
- Support and aid the AR team to research and verify insurance payments, adjustments, and billing discrepancies
- Provide support in ongoing physician education on coding compliance & edits
- Professionally and efficiently communicate with physicians and staff to support any questions or to ensure clear and correct documentation
- Routinely conduct chart audits and provide feedback based on AMA & AAPC guidelines
What Were Looking For:
- Certification: CPC, CCS, or equivalent (AAPC/AHIMA)
- Experience: 2 years in orthopedic, surgical, and ancillary medical coding
- Tech Skills: Experience with EHR/EMR & billing software
- Knowledge: Strong grasp of medical terminology, compliance regulations, and revenue cycle management
- Skills: Detail-oriented, analytical, self-motivated and deadline-driven
