Purpose:
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist will ensure OSHA compliance and safety standards are being followed. Focus on continuous improvement and developing a strong safety culture through employee engagement, safety initiatives, projects and improvements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement inspection policies, procedures, and schedules
- Conduct regular facility inspections to identify potential safety, health, and environmental risks
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, including timely reporting and documentation of workplace incidents and accidents
- Oversee the investigation of incidents, ensuring thorough documentation, root cause identification, and implementation of long-term corrective actions
- Manage worker’s compensation claims and employee medical care
- Maintain accurate records of safety data sheets, hazardous waste discharges, employee exposure to pollutants, and environmental permits. Ensure all records are accessible and up-to-date
- Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, local regulations, and internal safety standards. Utilize EHS consultants as necessary.
- Conduct new hire orientation to prepare and deliver training sessions on emergency procedures, workplace safety, and human resource policies
- Conduct yearly refresher classes for workplace safety and human resource training
- Routinely walk the production floor to ensure all employees are informed and compliant with EHS standards
- Prepare and submit comprehensive quarterly reports on EHS metrics and activities
- Handle administrative tasks related to EHS, including policy updates and documentation management
- Participate in and lead CI projects aimed at enhancing workplace safety and efficiency
- Organize and lead Safety Committee meetings
- Develop and manage employee wellness initiatives such as health education, accident prevention, walking programs, happiness initiatives, lunch and learns, etc.
- Respond to all safety concerns and ensure hazards are corrected as soon as possible

Skills/Work Experience Needed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required
- Five years of related experience preferred
- Certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, ASP, or CSP highly preferred
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to adapt quickly to change and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- High level of proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Expert knowledge of EPA and OSHA guidelines
- Experience interfacing with both internal team members and external customers as part of a solution-based service process
