Overview
The Ellisville Veterinary Hospital Veterinary Technician is responsible for providing superior customer service to all clients and supporting the hospital each and every day. Our Technicians are the liaison between the doctors and clients and in all perspectives and we firmly believe that being thoughtful, kind, and compassionate go a long way. Our Technicians are a pillar in the foundation of our patient care and we protocols and practices put in place by our hospital.
Essential Functions/Job Duties
Evaluating patients and obtaining history from clients
Restraining patients for exams and procedures
Organization and maintenance of both digital and paper client records
Vaccination preparation and administration
Lab work including but not limited to obtaining samples of blood, urine, feces and running appropriate tests associated with each sample (be it in house or
sent out with appropriate paperwork and packaging per lab standards)
Maintenance of hospital equipment including but not limited to radiology, autoclave, ultrasonic cleaners, IDEXX laboratory equipment, and dental
cleaning equipment.
Clean up after pets including saliva, urine, feces, and vomit
Assist the doctors including but not limited to:
Filling prescriptions
Taking radiographs
Caring for and administering treatment to patients (subcutaneous fluids, medications, intravenous fluids, etc.)
Ear cleaning
Anal gland expression
Pedicures
Placing IV catheters
Surgical paperwork
Drug calculations
Anesthesia Induction & monitoring
Patient intubation
Cleanliness of kennels, patient treatment area, surgery, and work stations
Restocking of exam room materials and laboratory supplies
Practice laundry of towels, beds, work mats, etc.
Maintenance of controlled drug, anesthesia, laboratory, radiology, and surgery medical logs
Inventory supervision and as needed supply ordering
Client/Patient follow up calls
Able to work independently and as a team

Must be 18 years of age or older

Valid Driver’s License required

Must enjoy and be comfortable working with pets of all sizes and temperaments, including handling and lifting animals as necessary
Stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
Ability to stand, sit, squat, or kneel to assist with patients
Fast-paced, fluid work environment
Lift up to 100 pounds assisted
Stand/walk/move about for prolonged periods of time while at practice
Schedule includes some evenings and weekends.
Other
Licensed Technicians are required to complete the number of Continuing Education hours mandatory to keep their license. Unlicensed technicians are
required to attend at least one CE meeting per year focused on job appropriate information.
