Ellumen, a Top Workplace recognized by the Washington Post, is a small business based in Silver Spring, MD, providing a broad spectrum of IT services to both government and commercial clients.

We are looking for an experienced Web Developer to join our team and support the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Passenger Application Multimedia Support (PAMS) project. As a part of our team, you will enhance the appearance, functionality, and usability of products for our federal customers. This role offers the opportunity to create features that directly impact the training needs of CBP personnel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers to gather and evaluate user requirements.
  • Design visually appealing graphic elements, navigation components, and user interface (UI) elements such as menus, tabs, and widgets.
  • Build and optimize page navigation buttons, search fields, and other interface components to enhance user experience.
  • Develop UI prototypes and demonstrate functionality to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Identify and troubleshoot UX problems, applying adjustments to enhance usability and overall user satisfaction.
  • Ensure adherence to style standards for fonts, colors, and images.
  • Use wireframe tools (e.g., Wireframe.cc, InVision) and design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop) to create and refine designs.
  • Optimize the online user experience by improving usability, functionality, and visual design.
  • Provide guidance on UX research methodologies, including testing activities to analyze and predict user behavior.
  • Other duties as assigned.  This is not a complete list of responsibilities.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to be onsite in Ashburn, VA.
  • U.S. Citizenship required, with the ability to obtain federal clearance (Active DHS CBP clearance preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a UI/UX Designer, preferably with government clients.
  • Proficient in design software and wireframe tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, InVision, Visio).
  • Solid understanding of front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, SCSS), mobile platforms (iOS, Android), and design systems.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with web and mobile application design.
  • Ability to quickly prototype solutions and iterate on feedback.
