Ellwood Crankshaft Group is the world's leading manufacturer of large, one-of-a-kind, multiple-throw crankshafts. ECG's products and services include crankshafts and eccentrics used in mechanical stamping presses, reciprocating air and gas compressors, reciprocating pumps, engines, mechanical shears, rock crushers, homogenizers and other miscellaneous applications. ECG services the locomotive, shipping, mechanical press, oil and gas and compression markets.

ECM is seeking a Logistics Manager.  This salary, exempt position is critical for daily operations at ECMP Sharon and will be responsible for the daily activities of the shipping department.  This position will report to the Plant Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated problem-solving abilities.

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Logistics Experience
  • Familiar with ECG manufacturing processes and product components.
  • Work experience in an ISO 9000 Quality Management System environment.
  • ERP System experience (i.e., Syteline)
  • Supervisory or management experience
  • Purchasing or related experience

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • General:
  • Oversight of all yard operations, organization, and crate inventory, including physical inventory
  • Assist with TOC Initiatives (i.e., Job Close, Visual Management System)
  • Coordinate shipping schedules and personnel requirements with Operations daily to ensure that trucks can be arranged accurately to pick up of product and shipment per customer due dates.
  • Perform other duties deemed necessary.

Supervisory and Management Duties:

Assign and supervise materials handlers and appropriate personnel to any necessary Receiving, Shipping, Packaging and Supply-related duties and ensure the completion of the following:

Receiving:

  • Verify that shipment is expected and authorized.
  • Ensure that freight is properly, timely and safely unloaded and verify that paperwork matches items that are unloaded. Manage the proper loading and unloading of trucks so that all parts are in their designed dock location.
  • Inspect all loads for in-transit damage and document the discrepancies on the bill of lading. Secure photos prior to unloading whenever possible. 
  • Ensure that parts stored outside are properly identified, review storage processes and identify and implement storage improvements.
  • Process necessary paperwork and ERP entries to generate product ID tag and traveler.
  • Immediately tag parts upon receipt
  • Immediately have material handlers move parts to correct work center staging areas.
  • Take ownership of non-material receipts (i.e., spare parts).
    • Place these deliveries in the appropriate place.
    • Alert the owner via email.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of multiple shipping departments.

Packaging:

     Develop and use best practice methods for packaging to prevent claims associated with freight damage during transportation.

  • Preserve parts with proper coating and build packaging according to instructions.
  • Ensure shafts are wrapped properly and according to customer requirements.
  • Advise Production Manager of any erroneous info on shop packet related to shipping. This will ensure the route is corrected to prevent future issues.
  • Enclose proper paperwork and documentation as required by the customer with each shaft.
  • Do a final visual quality check and watch for any deficiencies that would cause the customer to reject the shaft, such as missing holes, stamping, plugs, poor finish, burrs, scratches, nicks, or anything else that may cause the customer to reject the shaft. Alert quality of any issues.

Shipping:

Develop and ensure use of best practice methods for shipping.

  • Effectively recommend hiring of temporary labor if needed to augment regular workforce
  • Make sure trucks are processed in an orderly fashion.
  • Have the correct shafts in shipping, prepared, and placed on the truck in a timely fashion.
  • Shipping crankshafts – Assure Safe loading of trucks, ensuring that all paperwork is provided and required copies are signed, retained and delivered to management or administration in a timely fashion.
  • Arrange domestic and international shipments.
    • Communicate with carriers and freight forwarders.
    • Work with the Quality Department to ensure all required documentation is included (i.e., Agency Certs)
    • Create Bills of Lading (BOLs), labels, etc., in Syteline
    • Adherence to US Export Laws
  • Proactively solicit information on anticipated shipments – Via the automated ECF email, and from Operations.
  • Ensure that personnel follow standard operating procedures for box building and crates.

Supplies/Lumber:

  • Ensure proper levels of lumber, nails, cardboard, and other consumables in house for support of building crates.
  • Responsible to ensure all boxes/skids arrive error free and per drawing specs.
  • Ensure that boxes are available to meet the needs of the production schedule.
    • Work with Purchasing Manager to coordinate box outsourcing / receiving.
  • Monitor lumber inventory, trigger purchase when stock is low.
  • Maintain log for Timber Products (for use of overseas shipment stamp.)

Purchasing Duties:

  • Reviewing lead times, current inventory levels and MRP forecasts to determine supply requirements.
  • Evaluating existing inventory and projecting future needs to ensure adequate inventory and to prevent overstocking.
  • Working with vendors on bids, negotiating best prices, placing purchase orders, managing deliveries and analyzing and implementing options for cost reductions
  • Building approvals with adequate support information (application, justifications and bids)
  • Creating requisitions when determined to be necessary.
  • Entering requisitions for consumable materials, as required with purchasing.
  • Receiving, issuing or applying of material to jobs or work orders
  • Coordinate with Accounting to ensure the use of proper account codes and tax status with all purchase orders.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable to correct payment issues.
  • Understanding and covering (as needed) the purchasing resources responsibilities of setting up stock locations, updating Bill of Materials for Production and Maintenance
  • Understanding and covering (as needed) the inventory and receiving responsibilities handled by Purchasing Resources or Tool Cage Attendant
  • Working in other various purchasing functions as needed
