What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crew Member position at ELLWOOD Engineered Castings?
About the Position:
We are seeking a Crew Member to join our Finishing department. As a member of the ELLWOOD team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality of our castings by performing chipping and grinding operations to remove irregularities or imperfections according to customer specifications.
What You'll Do:
• Read and understand blueprints and spec sheets
• Perform chipping and grinding of molds to customer specifications: remove excess iron, clean grooves inside molds, patch damaged sections, grind out excess, finish grind, chipping work
• Maintain all tools including chisels, hoses, guns, grinding wheels and return to proper storage
• Sand blast molds, clean and perform minor repair
• May be cross-trained on rotary planer
• Keep work area clean and clutter-free
• Must adhere to all housekeeping and safety standards, including the required use of personal protective equipment
Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Able to perform work of a semi-repetitive nature using 7 to 8 lb. chipping guns
• Able to read drawings
• Able to withstand prolonged periods of standing and bending and heavy lifting
• Must be able to pass physical requirements
• Must be willing to work flexible hours and mandatory overtime
• Ability to train and receive certification on Crane
• Ability to withstand extreme temperatures
• Ability to lift 30 - 60 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience in a manufacturing or foundry environment
• Ability to read blueprints, customer specification sheets, and tape measures
• Certified with operating mobile equipment or overhead crane
