The Director of HR, based on-site in Hubbard, OH, provides comprehensive HR support to EA’s 65 team members. The position requires discretion and seasoned experience in daily HR functions, including Positive Employee Relations (PER), performance management, recruitment, and training and development.

This position reports to and collaborates with the EA President on strategic initiatives, including building and sustaining high team member engagement across the organization.  The role requires a hands-on approach, as the Director directly manages all day-to-day HR activities, however does have support from a shared HR Generalist resource.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities include the following to be performed directly or delegated with oversight by the Director.  Confidentiality must be maintained at the highest levels; other duties may be assigned.

Team Member Relations & Engagement:

  • Develop and implement the EA positive employee relations (PER) strategy to maintain a union-free status while collaborating with and supporting ELLWOOD’s corporate PER policy and philosophy.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for team members regarding HR policies, procedures, and general inquiries.
  • Actively address team member concerns and resolve workplace conflicts.

HR Strategy & Process:

  • Work closely with the EA President and managers to align HR strategies with overall business goals.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that foster a culture of engagement and accountability, ensuring a respectful, inclusive and collaborative work environment, and implement continuous improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Oversee and manage the full Team Member Lifecycle, including compensation, benefits, leave, recruitment, hiring, disciplinary actions, disputes, performance management, team member engagement, workers’ compensation, and training and development.
  • Develop solutions and update programs or policies using data to monitor critical HR indicators (metrics), including absenteeism, turn-over, overtime, and compensation.
  • Conduct thorough investigations and advise managers on progressive discipline practices.  Assure due process and consistency in all performance-related workplace incidents and investigations.
  • Ensure accurate payroll processing by reviewing timecards and submitting and approving initial payroll files.

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, data privacy regulations, and other legal requirements.
  • Maintain accurate team member files and documentation, and other reporting required, to comply with regulations.
  • Implement policies and practices to ensure records are maintained in compliance with rules and regulations required of Federal Contractors, and prepare information required or requested for compliance.
  • Regularly review and update policies and practices to maintain compliance and communicate the need for changes to EA management team.

Community and Professional Engagement:

  • Participate in community and professional development initiatives, including career awareness events, HR associations, and grant initiatives.
  • Collaborate with ELLWOOD’s Corporate HR and other Business Unit HR on issues and strategic projects, as necessary. 

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible HR roles; minimum of five (5) years of HR management experience.

Demonstrated Expertise:

  • Comprehensive experience in all HR functional areas.  
  • Experience developing a culture of Positive Employee Relations and a collaborative work environment, including:
    • Legally compliant workforce management policies, procedures and practices, specifically OFCCP regulatory compliance requirements that also drive a culture of engagement
    • Developing and implementing multi-year strategic initiatives that increase business productivity, including strategic team member training and development.
  • Manufacturing industry experience preferred.

  • Flexibility to work outside normal hours and travel locally as required, with reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
