What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kitchen Aide/Custodian position at Elmcor Youth & Adult Activities Inc?
SUMMARY:
Manage congregate meals and cleaning duties for the Older Adult Center.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Follows all requirements relative to health codes and kitchen maintenance.
- Ensures senior safety as required by Fire Department of New York (FDNY).
- Coordinate with the Assistant Director in the ordering of perishable, non-perishable, commodities and cleaning supplies.
- Assists in planning menus that are varied and nutritiously sound with the Cook and/or Caterer.
- Make adjustments to menus where needed in order to maintain proper daily nutritional intake.
- Follows all requirements relative to health codes and kitchen maintenance.
- Ensures strict cleanliness of kitchen, food serving areas, and utensils, at all times.
- Maintains oversight of the catered food required documentation.
- Maintains the storage and supply closets.
- Wears proper attire while preparing meals, as per set guidelines of the Department for the Aging (DFTA) and Department Of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH)
- Documents the catered meal sheets upon receipt.
- Accurately reports temperature of congregate meals when it arrives, and right before serving. Communicates changes and progress to Assistant Director/ Site Coordinator on a timely manner.
- Maintains cleanliness and proper temperature of the refrigerator and freezer.
- Confers with Site Assistant Director/ Site Coordinator of any kitchen area concerns and/or problems, in a timely manner.
- Reports potential unsafe conditions of the kitchen area to the Assistant Director and/or Site Coordinator, in a timely manner.
- Incorporates daily assignment sheets for congregate meal and custodial volunteers.
- Maintains proper signage of Congregate meal and Weekend Meal sheets.
- Develops alternative solutions with the Site Coordinator and Assistant Director.
- Keep records for service reports of, boilers, heaters, air conditioners, etc.
- Ensure proper working condition of air condition, heating units and fire extinguishers.
- Ensures strict cleanliness of all areas, at all times.
- Maintains the storage and supply closets are clean and organized.
- Ensures proper lighting and the maintenance of all light fixtures.
- Ensures proper maintenance of all floors, sweeping, mopping, stripping, and buffing, etc.
- Maintain windows and doors, cleanliness and good working order.
- Maintains cleanliness of all staircase floors and rails.
- Maintains cleanliness of all walls and doors.
- Clean all bathrooms, including sinks, mirrors, walls, toilets and floors.
- Clean the main entrance and rug daily.
- Empty all trash cans and remove trash to the outside building daily.
- Clean all trash receptacles.
- Repair all minor damage and light repairs done to the facility. Major repairs reported to Site Coordinator.
- Responsible for contacting all outside maintenance contractors as needed after prior approval.
- Clean up before and after scheduled events.
- Maintain outside of the building is swept and clean of debris. Also, maintains a snow removal plan.
- Maintain the location and accessibility of machinery: such as water meters, gas meters, and electrical meters.
- Ensures that broken furniture is either repaired or discarded.
- Ensures that painting and patchwork needs are met.
Qualifications:
- Must receive/obtain a Food Protection License from the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, and receive a copy of their State guidelines. These guidelines must be followed at all times.
- Must receive/obtain First Aid, CPR, AED training.
- Some knowledge of minor repair/janitorial work.
- Some knowledge of basic computer skills.
- Must take OSHA trainings. These guidelines must be followed at all times.
