What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Secondary Student Learning position at Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205?
- In coordination and consultation with the Assistant Superintendents of Learning & Teaching, develop and monitor secondary academic programs across all content areas, including curriculum, assessment, recruitment of staff, and performance data analysis.
- In partnership with school leadership teams, identify adult learning plans to develop secondary educators, including observations/feedback, professional learning sessions, curriculum development, caseload analysis, and improvement recommendations for evidence-based interventions based on student outcomes.
- In coordination with the Assistant Superintendents of Learning & Teaching, School Leadership, and Student Services, coordinate the scheduling, programming, progress-monitoring, and staffing related to Tier II and Tier III instruction for students 6-12.
- In coordination with the Assistant Superintendents of Learning & Teaching and School Leadership, design a district-wide data driven professional development plan and facilitate sessions for instructional coaches, division chairs, assistant principals, and principals.
- Design, coordinate, implement, monitor and improve Elmhurst District 205 academic programming pathways, defined as a recommended, aligned sequence of courses that provide students opportunities to explore and develop skills within areas of core content across grades 6-12.
- In coordination with the Assistant Superintendents of Learning & Teaching and School Leadership, collaborate with principals, staff and other supervisors to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs to ensure programs achieve short and long-term goals and that services are administered uniformly, equitably and effectively at all secondary schools.
- Coordinate curriculum planning and alignment with relevant Learning & Teaching Directors and Secondary Principals, Assistant Principals, Instructional Coaches, Department Chairs, and Division Chairs.
- Partner with Assistant Principal of Instruction at York High School to lead school improvement efforts and engage in professional learning and coaching cycles for Division Chairs.
- Collaborate with the Director of Research and Assessment to continuously use research and data to monitor progress towards goals and develop strategic plans to elevate student outcomes.
- Foster and maintain relationships with external partners to sustain district wide teaching and learning efforts.
- Assist Learning and Teaching Directors with coordinating Professional Development experiences for all staff and informational events for guardians.
- Create and maintain community partnerships when appropriately connected to curriculum and instruction.
- Keep current in knowledge of curriculum, instructional pedagogy, adult learning, research-based and standards-aligned programming and practices.
- Perform other tasks and assume responsibilities as assigned.
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an Administrative, General Administrative, Principal, Supervisory or Superintendent endorsement required
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) endorsed in a Secondary teaching area
- Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills
- Strong knowledge of curriculum/instruction/staff development
- Master’s Degree required
- Evidence of at least five (5) years of exemplary classroom teaching expertise and three (3) years of building or district administrative experience
- Deep understanding of current curriculum practices, instructional pedagogy, formative and summative assessments, evidenced-based interventions, and implications for classrooms
- Deep understanding of the Illinois Learning Standards, Common Core Shifts, SAT, PreACT, and ACT Assessments
- Proven leadership skills to facilitate teachers and leaders in curriculum, instruction, and professional development
- Proven ability to listen, share ideas, identify obstacles to student achievement, and strategically plan with other administrators
