Job Title : Graduate & Continuing Education Admission Counselor

Department : GR / CE Admissions

Reports to : Director of GR & CE Admissions

Job Summary :

Results-oriented, energetic Graduate & Continuing Education Admission Counselor will work in a fast-paced environment with effective decision-making skills and customer service experience. Recruit and assist prospective students by assessing their skills and interests while guiding them through the enrollment process. This position requires creativity, a high level of interpersonal communication skills, and strong computer and telephone skills. Flexible and adaptable to changing environments. This position is full time that requires time flexibility and will occasionally include evening and weekend availability.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Understand and convey the Elms College distinctive program details and mission.
  • Develop a thorough and functional knowledge of the Graduate & Continuing Education programs in order to represent them to prospective students.
  • Achieve or exceed semester enrollment goals for assigned programs.
  • Manage all aspects of graduate student enrollment as assigned, including pre-admissions advising, applicant counseling, acceptance processing, and enrollment with proactive, timely follow-up with the prospective student at every stage.
  • Responsible for data entry processing in Slate; maintaining consistent records and current status reports for each prospective student, using established resources and guidelines set forth by institutional guidelines.
  • Participate in on and off-campus activities in places such as career fairs, trade conferences, corporate recruiting, two-year colleges and schools, etc.
  • Meet on a regular basis with supervisor (and potentially other members of the enrollment leadership team) to report on the status of applicants, status of the recruiting funnel, and semester forecasting to thus determine the need and / or viability of class start dates.
  • Provide reports, updates, and any other pertinent information to supervisor on a regular basis or upon request. Participate fully in information sessions and events as requested.
  • Assist with the coordination of admission and / or recruiting events.
  • Function as a team player within the Graduate & Continuing Education Admissions office to assist the team in the achievement of the overall enrollment goals each semester.
  • Represent graduate and continuing education programs at recruitment and marketing events.
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned.
  • Establish working relationships with faculty members both on the Elms campus and affiliated campuses.
  • Identifies and establishes new recruitment opportunities.
  • Maintains good financial records for expense reports from recruitment travel and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills / Abilities :

  • Ability to learn admissions software (Slate / Colleague), as well as MS Office and Google programs. Understanding of the admissions process particularly as it related to data processing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • High-level motivation, well-organized, and the ability to work independently as well as with the Graduate and Undergraduate admissions teams.
  • Results-oriented.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate the changing needs of the departments and institution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students, family, and advocates as well as with the campus community. Ability to communicate via various electronic methods.
  • Ability to adhere to procedures and to explore opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to utilize existing and untapped resources for the benefit of recruiting and admitting students.
  • Calm, friendly, and professional attitude. Must be dependable and adhere to college and department policies relating to punctuality, attendance, leave time, and work breaks.
  • General knowledge and promotion of the College’s missions, purpose, goals, and the role of this position in achieving those goals. Strong commitment to the mission of the College and to our students.
  • Ability and desire to work with a diverse population.
  • Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Use of general office equipment in an office setting. Requires an equal amount of standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and climbing multiple levels of stairs. Light lifting, near vision and manual dexterity to perform essential job functions. Requires ability to travel between buildings on campus with exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Requires driving or traveling to locations in and outside the local area on official college business. Valid drivers license and good driving record required.
  • Background check will be conducted upon hire and on a routine basis thereafter. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
