What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Lead Counselor position at Elmwood Day Camp?
Elmwood Day Camp is seeking a lead counselor for the summer of 2025 to join our camp family. The ideal candidate is a college grad. The camp staff at Elmwood is a team of college students, graduate students, and teachers who are each dedicated to working with kids ages 3 – 11. Each staff member is committed to helping each child discover, celebrate, and be who he or she is supposed to be.
Responsibilities with campers include but are not limited to:
- Supervising a group of 12-14 campers
- Mentor two high school and/or college-aged staff members in their growth throughout the summer
- Ensuring camper safety and well-being
- Communicating with co-counselors and Division Head
- Being part of the camp community
The Lead Group Counselor position is a full-time commitment of 8 weeks – Monday through Friday from 8:20 – 4:10, plus 2-3 days of mandatory staff orientation.
The right candidate is:
- College graduate
- Previous experience working with Children
Elmwood is a children’s day camp located in Westchester, NY, in a beautiful wooded residential section of White Plains. As a part of the Elmwood team, staff members are sure to enjoy the challenges, triumphs, responsibilities, rewards and fun that make up each day. We have a high energy and friendly staff. We offer optional staff rec events in the evenings to allow staff to get to know each other after the camp day.
