Location: Elmwood Park Zoo Gift Shop
Summary of Responsibilities:
This position requires a motivated and customer-oriented person that will assist customers with purchases and create an enjoyable shopping experience. This role involves conducting sales transactions, maintaining the gift shop’s appearance, and sharing product knowledge that will help customers make informed buying decisions.
- Assist the Zoo in fostering an appreciation of wildlife and their habitats that will inspire active participation in conservation.
- Assist management in ensuring safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all areas of the operation of the Zoo.
- To treat with confidentiality all information entrusted or known by you regarding guests, animals, business, employees, volunteers, incidents, and any other sensitive information.
- Communicate effectively with both adults and children in both group and individual settings. Always greet guests and exercise professionalism.
- Ensure guests are properly greeted.
- Communicate effectively with all guests and groups.
- Assist with all guest needs, both stated and implied.
- Operate point of sale system and cash register, managing transactions and ensuring a balanced till.
- Contribute to the organization and neatness both behind the counter, and on the sales floor.
- Assist with receiving, pricing, and stocking merchandise in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the management team
- Prior cash handling experience
- Prior sales experience preferred
- Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
- Excellent customer service skills

- Ability to remain composed and attentive when interacting with the public
- Ability to start and maintain conversations

Work Experience: Some experience required
Schedule: Must be able to work at least 20 hours per week. Must be able to work weekends, holidays and during school breaks. Schedule subject to change and may require late shift hours.

Two forms of official valid identification are required. Ability to pass criminal background and child abuse clearance is required.
Wage: $15.00/hr
