Architectural Historian

Position Description:
ELOS is seeking an Architectural Historian who is a motivated self-starter to assist a multidisciplinary team of accomplished professional Archaeologists and Environmental Scientists on a variety of projects. The Architectural Historian, under supervision from the Director of Cultural Resources, is responsible for writing reports, completing and submitting architectural forms, and conducting research in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and other state/federal regulations.
Education:
Preferred Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or closely related field with coursework in American architectural history; or
Bachelor's degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or closely related field. If the applicant only has a bachelors degree, the applicant must demonstrate one of the following:
At least two years of full-time experience in research, writing, or teaching in American architectural history or restoration architecture with an academic institution, historical organization or agency, museum, or other professional institution; or
Substantial contribution through research and publication to the body of scholarly knowledge in the field of American architectural history.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
Support the Director of Cultural Resources in preparing proposals, writing reports, and conducting research.
Collaborate with the Archaeological team on fieldwork.
Communicate with the Louisiana Division of Historic Preservation, Division of Archaeology, and State Historic Preservation.
Provide insight into potential project effects on historic properties.
Conduct Louisiana Historic Standing Structures Surveys.
Communicate knowledge of and provide input on current federal and state regulations in regard to project development.
Develop Web Maps/Apps/Dashboards for use on ArcGIS Online (AGOL) and Portal in conjunction with Collector and Survey123.
Required Experience/Desired Skills:
- Secretary of the Interior-qualified
- Demonstrated ability to conduct historical research and write technical reports
- Strong written and oral communication skills for all levels of technical understanding
Desirable Experience/Skills:
- Two years of experience is preferred
- Familiarity with software, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Google Eart is a plus
- Archaeological experience is a plus
- Experience reading architectural and/or engineering plans is a plus
- Any experience with ESRI Product/Application Suite: ArcGIS Desktop and Extensions, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, Collector for ArcGIS, Survey 123 is a plus
- Experience in the environmental consulting industry is a plus
- Knowledge of American Southeast architectural styles is a plus
