Full-time Description
The Junior Estimator will work closely with both the estimating & production team and will assist in estimating the overall scope for particular projects (with a focus on Sheetmetal). In this role, the Junior Estimator will support the estimation process by analyzing blueprints, specifications, quotes, and existing site conditions to assist in determining project costs. Additionally, they will help estimate labor, material, and time requirements under the supervision of senior staff.

Sales and Estimating
- Assists in reviewing bid opportunities to evaluate alignment with the company’s capabilities and business objectives.
- Reads and interprets specifications, drawings, notes, etc., in bid requests with guidance from senior staff.
- Requests clarification on issues from potential clients to support the submission of complete bids.
- Assists in electronically taking off job details using the company’s selected estimating system.
- Visits job sites, if necessary, to assist in evaluating unusual site or production requirements.
- Supports the review of estimates and bids with the responsible manager before client submission.
- Participates in the follow-up process of submitted bids to maximize bid success.
- Assists in obtaining and documenting reasons and bid spreads for bids not awarded to the company.
- Gathers and reviews vendor prices for bid projects.
- Participates in client sales calls and documents interactions for the Estimating Manager.
- Helps reconcile contract values with submitted bid values, including alternatives.
- Assists in compiling, reviewing, and turning over estimate packages to Project Management and field personnel.
- Supports the organization of turn-over meetings between estimating, project management, and field operations.
- Provides information to the Estimating Administrator to maintain the bid log and update status changes.
- Follows all estimating procedures and carries out required duties as assigned.
- Assists in periodic updates of employee and equipment billing rates and burden percentages.
- Aids in updating the estimating database with actual production units.
- Attends monthly job cost meetings and assists in identifying areas requiring adjustment in the estimating system.
- Maintains professional, cooperative relationships with general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, and owners.
- Participates in regular meetings with estimating and project management teams to ensure proper information flow and progress towards stated goals.
- Assists Project Managers and Superintendents in maintaining job cost budgets.
- Develops familiarity with the estimating system and helps maintain the database.
- Ensures procedures and tools are in place to promote efficient and accurate estimates.
- Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the company’s software and other operating systems.
- Complies with corporate policies and procedures.
- Participates in training and development opportunities to achieve full potential.
- Performs other duties as necessary to support efficient construction operations.
- BA/BS in a business or technical discipline - Preferred.
- 2-4 years of sales and estimating experience in a subcontracting environment.
- Honesty, integrity, and a strong desire to succeed.
