What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classroom Behavior Support position at Elwyn?

POSITION SUMMARY: The Positive Support Facilitator I (PSF I) teaches and coaches the classroom staff members in the implementation of the universal behavior management programming (i.e., Safety Care and School Wide Positive Behavior Support Intervention Strategies (SWPBIS) as well as individual and classroom-wide behavior and safety plans. The PSF also assesses and monitors all school environments for safety and potential risks related to severe and critical student behavioral incidents.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide Safety Care intervention services to students to increase engagement, build social skills, reduce behavioral incidences, and improve social and emotional development
  • Obtain and maintain trainer credentials for those programs adopted by the Davidson School to address safety and behavioral challenges (e.g., Safety Care Behavioral Crisis Prevention and Management)
  • Train staff to proficiency in those programs adopted by the Davidson School to address safety and behavioral challenges (e.g., Safety Care Behavioral Crisis Prevention and Management)
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings for students exhibiting behavioral challenges to provide a collaborative approach to improving behavior by reviewing behavior support plans, fidelity to intervention strategies, and discussing the implementation of the specially designed instruction (SDI), etc.
  • Assist classroom staff in maintaining behavior and critical incident management by providing clear, concise, and thorough documentation of incidents via the Behavior Incident Form (BIR)
  • Review and lead Behavioral Incident Report debriefings
  • Track moderate incidents, using BIRs and coaching staff, to avoid further escalation of behaviors
  • Coach Davidson School and agency staff on implementation of Safety Care techniques by regular observations and fidelity checks
  • Plan and execute Safety Care refreshers with staff as needed in coordination with the professional development team and education facilitators
  • Coach and transfer skills to designated staff members utilizing Safety Care for mild, moderate, severe and critical incidents by modeling and consultation to maintain fidelity to the Safety Care model and interventions
  • Respond to behavioral incidents in order to help facilitate the use of Safety Care to extinguish dangerous behaviors
  • Contribute to the IEP team meetings when necessary with pertinent behavioral information
  • Conduct frequent classroom assessment of Tier 1 interventions: classroom safety as deemed through Safety Care, structure inventory, Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS)
  • Assess classrooms for safety per the Safety Care recommendation by observation and consultation to maintain fidelity to the Safety Care model
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and safe crisis management using agency-trained protocols
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma; bachelors degree in education-related field preferred
  • Two (2) years of experience working with students with developmental disabilities in a work setting
  • Enrollment in or completion of Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) coursework
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal and state laws related to special education provisions
  • Knowledge and understanding of educational techniques, classroom management, and behaviors associated with special education disabilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of the goals and implementation science of systems for School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS)
  • Knowledge and understanding of human developmental stages and special needs of students
  • Knowledge and understanding of how Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) are conducted and utilized to construct effective PBSPs
  • Knowledge and understanding of best practices for intervening during crisis situations
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions with little or no need for direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions
  • Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and safe crisis management using agency-trained protocols
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, and Outlook,
  • Must have current, valid driver's license in state of residence, three (3) years driving experience in the United States, and acceptable driving record
