The Quality Manager - Airframe is responsible for overseeing all aspects of airframe-related quality assurance activities within a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility. This role ensures that all airframe work complies with regulatory requirements, customer specifications, and internal standards. The Quality Manager will lead a team of quality inspectors, perform audits, and foster a culture of continuous improvement to enhance the overall quality of airframe services offered.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Quality Oversight and Compliance:
Ensure airframe maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities meet or exceed all applicable regulatory requirements (FAA, EASA, etc.), as well as customer specifications.
Review and approve airframe-related processes and procedures, ensuring compliance with internal standards and best practices.
Monitor and track non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective actions for airframe services.
2. Team Leadership and Training:
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of quality inspectors and technicians.
Provide ongoing training and support to ensure that the quality team is up-to-date on the latest industry standards, regulations, and technologies.
Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and development programs for team members.
3. Audit and Inspection:
Plan, execute, and oversee internal and external audits for airframe-related work.
Review work packages, airframe repair logs, and other documentation to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Perform periodic inspections of airframe components and structures to verify that repairs and maintenance are completed in accordance with approved procedures.
4. Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action:
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations on airframe quality issues or incidents, determining the cause and implementing effective corrective actions.
Follow up on corrective actions to ensure timely resolution and effective closure.
5. Continuous Improvement:
Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the quality department and across the facility.
Develop and implement initiatives to improve airframe quality processes, reduce errors, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Analyze quality metrics and trends to identify areas for improvement.
6. Documentation and Reporting:
Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for airframe maintenance and quality control activities, maintaining full traceability for audits and inspections.
Prepare and submit quality-related reports to senior management, regulatory bodies, and customers as required.
7. Customer Interaction:
Interact with customers to address airframe quality concerns, providing timely and accurate information regarding repairs and inspections.
Ensure customer requirements are understood and implemented into the MRO processes.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Technology, or a related field (preferred).
Certification: FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license or equivalent (required).
Experience:
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in an MRO environment, specifically in airframe maintenance and quality assurance.
At least 3 years of experience in a leadership or managerial role within the aviation industry.
Knowledge:
Strong understanding of FAA/EASA regulations, airframe maintenance procedures, and industry best practices.
Experience with quality management systems (QMS), ISO 9001, or similar standards.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with quality management software (e.g., ERP, document management systems).
