We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Formulation Chemist to lead our production and maintenance teams in Jupiter, FL. This position is responsible for formulating and optimizing chemical products to meet customer specifications and regulatory standards. You will play a pivotal role in developing new formulas, enhancing existing ones, and supporting process optimization while ensuring product quality, safety, and productivity. The Formulation Chemist will also oversee a team, ensuring effective operations, team development, and adherence to all safety and regulatory requirements.
Pay Range: FROM $75,000 (based on experience)
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and formulate new and existing chemical products, ensuring they meet customer specifications and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct experiments, analyze data, and optimize formulations for improved performance and stability.
- Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and sales teams to bring new products to market.
- Evaluate and improve existing formulations based on performance testing and customer feedback.
- Provide technical support during scale-up processes, ensuring smooth transition from lab to manufacturing.
- Stay updated on industry trends, competitor products, and advancements in formulation technology.
- Ensure all formulations and processes comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
- Document formulation processes, results, and modifications following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Lead and manage a team of 3-6 Formulation Operators and Technicians, ensuring timely and accurate production.
- Coordinate, document, and implement daily production schedules and provide progress updates to Production Supervisors and Operations VP.
- Maintain accurate production records, including time, quality, cost, and output data, and prepare summary reports.
- Participate in the preparation of manufacturing documentation, including batch records, quality control sheets, and specification sheets.
- Ensure raw materials and finished products undergo quality control assessments.
- Uphold corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety principles and maintain OSHA and EPA compliance.
- Oversee the activities of employees engaged in manufacturing processes, including mixers, inventory coordinators, and maintenance personnel.
- Analyze work orders and production schedules to determine production needs and ensure targets are met.
- Plan and assign work schedules and production sequences to achieve goals.
- Coordinate personnel training and safety procedures, ensuring effective onboarding and ongoing development.
- Monitor operations and provide leadership to ensure quality and efficiency standards are met.
- Recommend and implement measures to motivate employees and improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
- Assist in personnel management, including hiring recommendations and promotions.
- Ensure timely requisition of materials, supplies, equipment, and services.
Qualifications:
- B.S., M.S., or PhD in Chemistry or a related science field (preferred but not required).
- Tertiary-level education in Production/Operations Management or equivalent with at least 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in developing formulations, including lab-scale chemistry, production scale-up, and process optimization.
- Strong understanding of formulation scale-up principles and challenges.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and team management skills.
- Proven ability to work in a results-driven, process-oriented environment.
- Ability to influence, motivate, and train employees to achieve objectives.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, able to convey technical information to various stakeholders.
