Position Overview
A full-service hotel bartender is responsible for providing high-quality beverage service to hotel guests, ensuring an exceptional customer experience while maintaining a clean, organized bar area. Responsibilities also include preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests in a professional and efficient manner, ensuring excellent service, cleanliness, and safety standards. The bartender works closely with other hotel staff to enhance the guest experience and maintain a welcoming atmosphere in the hotel bar or lounge area.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and Serve Beverages:
- Prepare and serve a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks according to hotel standards and guest preferences.
Customer Service:
- Provide friendly, attentive service to guests, creating a memorable experience by anticipating guest needs and offering recommendations.
Monitor Guest Consumption:
- Observe and monitor guests’ alcohol consumption and identify signs of intoxication. Act in accordance with hotel policy and local laws, and ensure guests drink responsibly.
Maintain Cleanliness and Organization:
- Keep the bar area clean, organized, and fully stocked with supplies such as glassware, mixers, garnishes, and liquor bottles. Ensure all tools, glassware, and equipment are properly sanitized.
Inventory Management:
- Monitor stock levels, and assist in inventory control by keeping track of alcohol, supplies, and bar-related items. Notify the supervisor when supplies are low or need restocking.
Cash Handling and POS System:
- Handle cash and credit card transactions, ensuring accuracy and proper handling of payments. Maintain and balance cash register or POS (point-of-sale) system.
Collaborate with Other Hotel Staff:
- Coordinate with kitchen staff, servers, and hotel management to ensure smooth operations. Provide support during high-demand times or special events.
Compliance with Health and Safety Standards:
- Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and hygiene standards, including proper handling and storage of food and beverage items, and compliance with local alcohol regulations.
Special Events and Promotions:
- Participate in the setup and execution of hotel events, promotions, and special gatherings, ensuring a high standard of service.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Previous bartending experience is typically required (1-2 years), ideally in a full-service restaurant, hotel, or similar hospitality environment.
Skills:
- Knowledge of cocktail recipes, wine, beer, and spirits.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Basic math skills for handling transactions and inventory.
- Ability to handle difficult or intoxicated customers with professionalism and tact.
Licensing and Certifications:
- A valid bartender or server permit/license, depending on local laws (e.g., TIPS, ServSafe).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs), and work in a noisy, high-traffic environment.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the hotel's operating hours and guest needs.
- Willingness to work in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.
