Position Overview
The JR Comptroller oversees the financial operations of the hotel, ensuring accurate financial records, regulatory compliance, and efficient resource management. Working closely with senior management and department heads, the JR Comptroller provides financial insights, manages budgets, forecasts revenue, and streamlines accounting processes. With a strong background in hotel financial management and leadership skills, the JR Comptroller plays a critical role in maintaining the hotel’s financial health and driving its success and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation of monthly financial statements, balance sheets, and profit and loss reports.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting in compliance with accounting standards and hotel policies.
- Review and analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and operational inefficiencies.
- Prepare financial forecasts and annual budgets, working with department heads to ensure alignment with company goals.
Accounts Management:
- Supervise and manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries.
- Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.
- Manage cash flow, including monitoring daily cash balances and making recommendations for short-term investment strategies.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard hotel assets and ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
- Lead audits and coordinate with external auditors for annual reviews and tax preparation.
- Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal tax regulations.
Budgeting & Financial Analysis:
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring cost control and financial performance within targets.
- Provide financial analysis to senior management, including profitability analysis, variance reports, and capital expenditure proposals.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize operational efficiency.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Supervise the accounting department, ensuring proper training, development, and performance management of staff.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture, ensuring effective communication and problem-solving across departments.
- Provide guidance to hotel management on financial matters, offering recommendations for improving financial performance.
Guest & Vendor Relations:
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors, ensuring timely and accurate payment processing.
- Assist in the negotiation and management of contracts and supplier agreements, ensuring cost-effective terms and conditions.
Technology & Systems:
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of accounting software and systems to ensure accurate data processing and reporting.
- Stay up to date with the latest hotel industry financial systems and tools to improve efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred. CPA or equivalent certification ideal.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in hotel accounting or financial management.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting.
- Experience with hotel management software (e.g., PEP, Delphi, or similar).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
