Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor
Position Title: Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor
Status: Non-Exempt, Part Time/Seasonal, opportunity for extended employment

Reports To: Aquatics Program Manager

Lifeguard:
Lifeguards are responsible for monitoring the pool area to ensure patron safety, prevent drowning, and responding swiftly to emergencies while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment for our patrons.
Water Safety Instructor:
Water Safety Instructors will plan, organize, and lead swimming classes in accordance with American Red Cross standards, while effectively monitoring and coaching swimmers' progress. Developing lesson plans and collaborating with other instructors to provide unique swimming lessons for all.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Monitoring and enforcing all aquatics facility policies, rules, and regulations.
- Recognize and respond timely and appropriately in all emergency situations in the pool area and locker rooms.
- Maintaining constant vigilance of all patrons in the pool.
- Performs rescues when necessary.
- Perform routine inspections of the pool area and report any unsafe conditions or equipment needs.
- Accurately complete records and reports.
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions and maintain necessary certifications.
- Plan, organize, and conduct swimming lesson classes in accordance with the American Red Cross guidelines.
- Provide detailed feedback and coaching to participants as necessary.
- Accurately complete paperwork including individual lesson plans, sub notes, daily attendance, and summary skill report cards.
- Ensure the safety of participants by remaining diligent and avoiding unnecessary disruptions while enforcing proper guidelines for safety in and around water.
- Regular attendance as scheduled.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be 15 years old or older.
- In-depth knowledge of Lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
- In-depth knowledge of Water Safety Instruction and teaching techniques.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Must have excellent customer service.
- Positive attitude and enthusiastic approach to job functions.
- Demonstration of leadership skills.
- Current certifications in the following areas:
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding
- American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instruction
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Quickly react by running, jumping, and swimming
- Potential to lift and carry individuals from water
- Perform CPR
- Maintaining high level of alertness and focus
Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed in an indoor and/or outdoor pool environment. Often exposed to sun, water, and changing weather conditions.
Work Schedule:
Seasonal and year-round positions available. Seasonal positions will take place between the months of May and August. Shifts vary between the hours of 9am-8pm throughout the week.
