Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Sommelier to join our fine dining establishment. The ideal candidate will have a deep appreciation for wine and food pairings, along with the ability to enhance the dining experience through expert recommendations. This role requires a blend of sales acumen and culinary understanding, ensuring guests receive exceptional service while enjoying our extensive wine selection.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance on wine selections to enhance the dining experience for guests.
- Conduct wine tastings and educate staff on wine offerings, including regions, varietals, and food pairings.
- Assist in developing and maintaining the restaurant's wine list, ensuring it aligns with culinary offerings and guest preferences.
- Upsell wine selections to guests, contributing to overall sales goals while maintaining a focus on customer satisfaction.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of wines in accordance with food safety standards.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to create unique pairings for special events and catering services.
- Manage cash handling procedures related to wine sales, ensuring accuracy in transactions.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the wine cellar and service areas.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of wines, including regions, varietals, and tasting notes.
- Experience in fine dining environments with a focus on exceptional customer service.
- Ability to up-sell effectively while providing genuine assistance to guests.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices within a restaurant setting.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage customers and staff alike.
- Background in culinary arts or catering is a plus, enhancing the ability to create harmonious pairings between food and wine.
