What are the responsibilities and job description for the Home Study Writer/Family Assessor PRN position at EMBERHOPE, INC.?
To be a successful Home Study Writer/Family Assessor you must become able to do the following always:
- Ensure a trauma informed focus on creating a safe and supportive environment for staff and those served through knowledge, sensitivity, respect, and a focus on resilience and recovery.
- Responsible for writing a comprehensive?assessment of a family interested in adopting a child in the custody of the Secretary of Department of Children and Families (DCF), including adopt-only families sponsored by the company, using the Family Assessment and Preparation Study. The home study will be updated annually and anytime there is a significant change.
- Evaluate the safety and suitability of prospective adoptive parents and the type of child(ren) they are prepared to parent. Assess the family’s capacity for successful adoption and guide the family in determining the appropriateness of adoption for their family.
- Work with adoptive families and provide information on adoption related issues.
- Exercise discretion and judgement in determining the appropriateness for the family to adopt a specific child from foster care, which shall be documented in an updated family assessment prior to consideration in a Best Interest Staffing.
- Conduct at least two in person contacts or as many contacts necessary to complete a thorough comprehensive assessment to ensure a quality adoption preparation and assessment process. A face-to-face in-home interview with each member of the household is required, including the parents together, the parents individually, and their children individually. ?
- Ensure adoptive families have a certificate of completion in a family preparation program, medical/health information, and background clearances.
- Attend Best Interest Staffing’s and provide presentations of the adoptive family being represented.
- Follow Company Policy and Procedure and operate according to the Company’s Program Practice Guidelines.

To qualify for this job, you need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree with license. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in adoption practices preferred.
- 21 years of age. Must pass a background check, fingerprinting, and physical and drug screening.
- Maintain company-required training.
- Physical working requirements - Ability to travel, driving company or personal vehicle including at night. Ability to do occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Able to walk stairs. Ability to work flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends. Employees are subject to outside environmental conditions occasionally, inside conditions frequently, with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature change.
