Position Title: Part-Time Teller

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Position Reports To: Lead Teller / Branch Manager

POSITION PURPOSE

The primary focus of this position is to provide quality service in daily teller operations while selling a full range of credit union products and services to existing an prospective members. Employee will be responsible for the custody and control of currency and negotiable instruments. Responsible for providing a variety of paying and receiving functions for members in person, via phone, and through the mail including processing deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, cashiers' checks, money orders, and cash advances. Balances each day's transactions and verifies cash totals. Performs specific assigned side jobs including various clerical and receptionist functions, and assists other staff as required. Serves members promptly and professionally.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

1. Assumes responsibility for the efficient, effective, and accurate performance of teller functions.*

  • Represent the Credit Union in a courteous and professional manner.
  • May order, balance and secure cash and negotiable items.
  • Provide Safe Deposit Box access as needed.
  • Receives share deposits and loan payments.
  • Process cash advances, cashiers’ checks, money orders, wires, savings bonds, travel money and gift cards.
  • Disburse cash or check share withdrawals.
  • Process transfers.
  • Verify transactions. Monitor deposit amounts and examine documents for endorsement and negotiability. Detects and resolves discrepancies promptly.
  • Balance daily transactions and verifies cash totals. Investigate and resolve out-of-balance conditions.

2. Assumes responsibility for the effective and professional performance of member service functions.

  • Present and explain Credit Union services and products to members and assist in meeting their financial needs. Open and close accounts. Order checks for members' accounts. Complete payroll deduction and authorization forms.
  • Answer questions and solve problems for members by listening to problems, collecting data, securing answers, and reporting results to the inquiring party. Resolve member bookkeeping and checking account problems. Takes stop payment orders.
  • Receive and direct members and telephone calls. Respond to inquiries and questions if possible or direct them as necessary. Record and relay messages.
  • Perform file maintenance and account changes as needed.
  • Assist with entrance to safe deposit box.
  • Keep members informed of Credit Union services and policies, including types of available accounts, interest and dividend rates, payroll deduction options, and other related services.
  • Maintain and project the Credit Union's professional reputation. Maintain privacy of member account information.
  • Actively cross-sell Credit Union products and services to promote a complete member relationship.
  • Attend staff meetings or training sessions as required.

3. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

  • Perform drive-up service and night drop functions as assigned.
  • Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Perform related clerical duties as required.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

  • Teller functions are efficiently, effectively, and accurately performed in accordance with established policies, standards, and security procedures.
  • Monies are balanced and any discrepancies are promptly resolved.
  • Good business relations exist with members. Members' problems or questions are courteously and promptly resolved.
  • Good working relationships and coordination exist with area personnel and with management. Assistance is provided to other staff as needed. Supervisors are appropriately informed of area activities.
  • Required reports and records are accurate, complete, and timely.
  • The Credit Union's professional reputation is maintained and conveyed.
  • Transaction levels, balancing, errors, etc. are in line with Credit Union standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent Interpersonal skills including courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent Communication skills.
  • Excellent Consultative sales skills.
  • Strong Organization skills.
  • Professional appearance, dress, and attitude.
  • Solid math skills.
  • Ability to operate related computer applications and business equipment including 10 key calculator, typewriter, copy machine, coin and money counting and dispensing machines, and telephone.
  • Good typing skills.
  • Ability to follow procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to assist others.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.

Physical Strength: Active work; standing, reaching, kneeling, stooping, bending and manipulating small and large objects most of the time. Requires occasional lifting (>25 lbs)
