POSITION SUMMARY (Short summary of the essential purpose of the job)
The individual who holds this position will support and report to the Director of Development and will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of event planning, donor solicitation, solicitation campaigns and appeals, grant writing, donor cultivation, and donation record keeping. This individual will also manage and administer embrella's donor supported grant programs that assist children and youth in foster care, providing updates and reports to the Development Department, CEO and Board of Directors. This individual will interact regularly with our foster care nonprofit’s clients, vendors, and donors.
The above listed job duties serve as a brief description for this position. The Development Associate may be required to perform other tasks that are deemed necessary by the Director of Development.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED (Minimum education and experience needed to perform the job adequately)
- Bachelor's degree. Experience may be considered in-lieu of a degree.
- Program management experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work hands-on with clients, funders, and vendors
- Proven ability to work with and meet tight deadlines
- Mathematical skills are necessary
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people in a team environment
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL DESIRED:
- At least 3 years’ experience in nonprofit development either as a volunteer or employee
- Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems Salesforce and Classy by Go Fund Me
- At least 2 years' experience with grant writing
- Knowledge of, and passion for, child welfare
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties that occupy a major portion of time and importance in the job)
- Administers the Fostering Wishes, Dreamers and Believers, and Summer Camp
programs, supervises approval/denial, and oversees applications from receipt to fulfillment
- Sends surveys to program applicants and recipients, and composes report of analysis to be submitted to the Director of Development
- Researches, identifies, writes, and submits grants for the Fostering Wishes, Dreamers and Believers, and Summer Camp programs
- Assists with the organization, promotion and implementation of special events including embrella's Holiday Toy Drive, biennial tricky tray, annual fundraiser, and engagement events
- Provides administrative support to the Development Department and Board of Directors in the area of solicitation campaigns and appeals
- Attends tabling events, such as the New Jersey State Employees Charitable Campaign (NJECC), to solicit donations for embrella and increase community awareness
- Tracks and reports on program grant spending
- Generates monthly and quarterly reports on program usage as requested
- Updates and maintains donor records in Salesforce database
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Development

This position is primarily sedentary (must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time) and located in an office or home environment; there will be lifting (minimum of 30 lbs.). The employee is occasionally required to move about in the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. At times, this job may require the employee to work in the field or work evenings and weekends as needed.
