The Opportunity

The Security Studies and International Affairs Department is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to join faculty as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Homeland Security and Intelligence Studies. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in one or more of the following subject areas: emerging homeland security topics, intelligence experiential learning, critical thinking and analysis, and foundational homeland security principles. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses such as HSI 405 (Emergent Topics in Homeland Security), HSI 470 (Intelligence Experiential Learning Laboratory), HSI 110 (Introduction to Homeland Security), and HSI 115 (Critical Thinking and Analysis). In addition to these teaching duties, the selected individual will also serve as the lead for the Intelligence Experiential Simulation Learning Laboratory, overseeing the development, execution, and refinement of interactive simulations, exercises, and games within the curriculum. This position is crucial in shaping the next generation of homeland security professionals through both theoretical foundations and applied learning.

The candidate will be expected to deliver high-quality instruction, develop engaging curriculum, and facilitate a hands-on learning environment for undergraduate students. This includes guiding students through complex homeland security and intelligence concepts, helping them understand domestic and foreign policy implications, and mentoring them in applying critical thinking skills to real-world scenarios. The candidate should have experience with or a willingness to engage in innovative teaching methods, particularly for courses like HSI 470. As the lead for the Intelligence Experiential Simulation Learning Laboratory, the professor will be responsible for designing and implementing dynamic simulations that mirror real-world intelligence operations, enhancing student comprehension through practical experience.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the candidate will be expected to actively contribute to the department's academic and research goals. This includes staying informed about emerging threats and opportunities within the homeland security domain and incorporating this knowledge into course content. The professor will be encouraged to collaborate with colleagues on research initiatives, contribute to published works, and engage in scholarly activities that support the advancement of homeland security and intelligence education. Furthermore, as the lead for experiential simulations, the candidate will be responsible for continuously improving the lab's content and delivery, ensuring it remains relevant and impactful.
