Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Daytona Beach campus is seeking a Design and Space Planner to assist in managing interior design, space planning, and architectural projects across the campus. This position offers an exciting opportunity to gain experience in the field while supporting the enhancement of academic, administrative, and student spaces to align with the university’s mission, vision, and strategic goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in interior design, space management, architecture, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) while contributing to campus development efforts.
This position will serve as the primary point of contact for Daytona Beach faculty, staff, and students regarding space planning and interior design needs and will communicate regularly with academic and administrative leaders to ensure projects meet the needs of the client.
Creative and innovative thinking with an understanding of the dynamic needs of a higher education campus is needed to be successful to deliver projects on time and on budget.
Primary Job Functions, Duties, or Accountabilities:
Project Support and Coordination:
- Coordinate interior design, space planning, and architectural projects across the campus. Develop project plans, timelines, and resource allocation in collaboration with senior team members. Communicate regularly with stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students, to assess space needs and provide design recommendations. Monitor project progress and contribute to problem-solving to keep projects on track.
Design and Space Planning:
- Assist with the design and reconfiguration of interior spaces, focusing on functionality, safety, and comfort. Work with design teams to develop interior layouts and select furniture, finishes, and materials that enhance campus experiences. Ensure designs align with institutional branding, sustainability goals, and regulatory standards. Contribute to space utilization studies to improve campus facilities and optimize space efficiency.
GIS Integration and Management Support:
- Support the use of GIS tools to track space utilization and campus-wide needs, including utility updates. Collaborate with GIS teams to integrate spatial data into campus planning processes for effective decision-making.
Record Keeping and Documentation:
- Assist in maintaining as-built drawings and shared file storage systems to ensure up-to-date project documentation is available to the team.
Qualifications
Required Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Interior Design Technology, or a related field.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- 1-3 years of work related experience in Architecture & Interior Design
- Accredited degree program with ability to become licensed in the State of Florida.
- Technical Skills: Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit or CET Designer, Microsoft Office Suite, GIS tools, and project management software.
- Knowledge: Understanding of building codes, interior design principles, and space planning.
- Personal Attributes: Creative thinker with a strong desire to contribute to the development of dynamic spaces on a higher education campus. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders. Willingness to learn and adapt to changing requirements and priorities. Organized, self-motivated, and proactive with attention to detail.
Registered Interior Designer, AIA/RA, IIDA, NCIDQ, LEED or a combination of these designations is a highly desired.
