Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s (ERAU’s) Eagle Flight Research Center (EFRC) seeks to augment the research capabilities in the area of electrified aircraft propulsion. Candidates for the position of managing research aircraft maintenance technician are encouraged to apply.
The EFRC is a nimble, research-oriented conduit for joint ERAU/industry associations. The center structure is a core group of researchers and industry experts that can propose and execute research contracts for the aerospace industry on industry timelines. This center will focus on being able to provide one-stop solutions to many aviation problems. To that end, the center and its faculty and staff will strive to develop expertise not only with theory but with an emphasis on hardware and an eye on certification.
Qualifications
The qualified individual must desire to work in a fast paced, research environment with experimental aircraft where a procedure manual is not always available. The selected candidate will assist with inspections, basic maintenance and repair tasks, fabrication of custom parts, installation of research related equipment, and overall organization of the Flight Research Hangar. Preference will be given to candidates who display an aptitude for taking initiative, being highly organized, and getting things done. A vision of the direction of the aerospace industry and the ability to clearly communicate ideas both written and verbal is essential. The ability to work in both an industry environment and academic environment is required. Supervision and project management of peers, staff and students in a collegial yet goal-oriented method is key to long-term success.
Applicants must be willing to fly in experimental aircraft that is maintained by the facility when those aircraft are cleared for flight, via safety review board, with maintenance crew.
A current FAA airframe and powerplant certificate is required. Inspection Authorization is desirable but not required. Applicants without Inspection Authorization must be eligible for an Inspection Authorization within one year of employment. Pilot certificates are desirable but not required. Other Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certificates and delegations will be considered in the hiring process.
