Job Title: Intern - Engineer
Job Summary: Our internship provides participants with hands-on, career-specific experience in the Mechanical industry. The intern will work directly with the project managers. In this position, interns will gain working experience with building engineering systems, bidding process, construction project management, financial aspects of construction and the importance of active communications to the overall success of the team, while actively contributing through day-to-day tasks.
The Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting department managers and will collaborate with professionals in many areas of the business. In this position, interns will gain working experience with building engineering systems, bidding process, financial aspects of construction and the importance of active communications to the overall success of the team, while actively contributing through day-to-day tasks.
Objectives:
- Perform heat loss/gain load calculations
- Interpret the results
- Select and schedule HVAC equipment
- Size and layout hydronic piping and HVAC ductwork
- Work with estimating team for bid opportunities
- Work with and assist project managers with vendor solicitations, equipment submittals, communications and project site visits
- Engage with field personnel to understand work being performed and project of installations
- Collaborate with team solve problems
- Ability to concisely present findings and provide comments
- Ability to research compile, and analyze complex data and form sound conclusions
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in engineering, design, project management or related discipline.
- Basic understanding of engineering concepts involving heat loss/gain calculations, thermal envelopes, air flow calculations, and water flow calculations
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Self-motivated and results oriented
- Ability to solve problems
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work with team members, absorb information and apply information learned to work assignments
- Ability to organize and perform work activities with accuracy to meet deadlines, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to direct, prioritize and take initiative
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- This is a part-time position. Typical days/hours for this role are within the business hours Monday-Friday 7:00am-4:00pm.
- Occasional travel to job sites.
- This position is an on-site role.
